We are pleased to welcome Melanie Kushnir and Elizabeth
Pohlman as Assistant Directors of the Career Services Office.
Melanie and Elizabeth replace Christine Sturman and Navreet
Heneghan who left us this past spring to be full-time moms.
Melanie earned her J.D. at The Ohio State University College
of Law and her B.A. at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. For
the past several years since her graduation from law school,
Melanie has practiced as an Assistant Public Guardian with
the Juvenile Division of the Cook County Public Guardian's
Office. During law school she served as the Facilitator
for the Child Protection Agency in Sarasota, Florida, clerked
at the Office of the Corporation Counsel in Washington,
D.C., and was a National Service Legal Corps NAPIL Fellow
with the New Hampshire Public Defender.
Elizabeth earned both her Juris Doctor and undergraduate
degrees at the University of Wisconsin. Following graduation
from law school, she was in private practice at a general
practice firm in the U.S. Virgin Islands. While in law school,
Elizabeth participated in a number of clinical programs
including the Innocence Project and the Prosecutor's Project,
and served as an extern with both Legal Assistance to Institutionalized
Persons and the National Labor Relations Board. She also
worked as a law clerk for the UW legal department and as
an Administrator for the Center for Public Representation
in Madison.

Mistakes Lawyers Make, A 60-minute Teleconference
for Summer Associates, Prospective and New Lawyers is
being held on Thursday, June
12th from 1:00-2:00 EDT. Teleconference
Tuition: Individuals may participate for only $60. (For
MCLE credit, add $20 per individual).
This program is designed to help summer
associates, third-year hires and new lawyers anticipate
and avoid classic mistakes, common missteps, and core
misconceptions, including faulty assumptions, fundamental
time wasters, and foundational ethics problems. Through
the shared experience of others, aid lawyers to become
successful contributors to any organization.
Moderated by Kathy Morris, long-time legal
career counselor and director of the ABA Career Resource
Center, with special participation by George Kuhlman,
ABA Ethics Counsel and Associate Director of the ABA's
Center for Professional Responsibility, this Teleconference
program features prominent faculty members with a range
of practice experience and backgrounds.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office
still has some openings for Summer 2003 volunteer law
clerks. There are positions available in several Bureaus,

Equal Justice Works has several Route B
Fellowships available for third year law students and

Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference
The Twin Cities Committee on Minority Lawyers
in Large Law Firms and the Hennepin County Bar Association
are once again sponsoring the Minnesota Minority Recruitment
Conference. It will be held on September
5-6, 2003 at the offices
of Faegre & Benson in downtown Minneapolis.
The conference will again offer a judicial clerkship seminar,
interviews for judicial clerkships with local members
of the judiciary, a reception, and regularly scheduled

Chicago Area Law Firm List
As of Monday, October 14th, the Chicago Area Law Firm
List, also known as the 4 or More List became available
on-line in a password protected searchable database.
E-mail notification containing information about the
link and user name and password was sent out that afternoon
so be sure to check you e-mail. Although every attempt
is made at keeping the database current, some information
may become out of date due to firm mergers, contact
people leaving their firms, etc. It's suggested that
all information be double-checked prior to sending out
any cover letters and resumes. If you should learn of
any changes, please notify our office via e-mail so
we can update the database accordingly. Please contact
kentcso@kentlaw.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Each summer New York University hosts
a Summer
Living in New York program. Student apartment
style residences are made available to summer interns
and associates working in the NY legal and business
communities. The next session will run from May
25 through August 9, 2003. The application,
as well as further information, will be available online
in January. If interested, be sure to apply early as
space fills up quickly each year.
