Summer Semester Office Hours

The Career Services Office will be open throughout the summer. We will close at 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. Evening appointments with Career Strategists will be available by appointment only on Thursdays, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Call 312-906-5200 to schedule an appointment.

Welcome New CSO Assistant Directors

We are pleased to welcome Melanie Kushnir and Elizabeth Pohlman as Assistant Directors of the Career Services Office. Melanie and Elizabeth replace Christine Sturman and Navreet Heneghan who left us this past spring to be full-time moms.

Melanie earned her J.D. at The Ohio State University College of Law and her B.A. at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. For the past several years since her graduation from law school, Melanie has practiced as an Assistant Public Guardian with the Juvenile Division of the Cook County Public Guardian's Office. During law school she served as the Facilitator for the Child Protection Agency in Sarasota, Florida, clerked at the Office of the Corporation Counsel in Washington, D.C., and was a National Service Legal Corps NAPIL Fellow with the New Hampshire Public Defender.

Elizabeth earned both her Juris Doctor and undergraduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin. Following graduation from law school, she was in private practice at a general practice firm in the U.S. Virgin Islands. While in law school, Elizabeth participated in a number of clinical programs including the Innocence Project and the Prosecutor's Project, and served as an extern with both Legal Assistance to Institutionalized Persons and the National Labor Relations Board. She also worked as a law clerk for the UW legal department and as an Administrator for the Center for Public Representation in Madison.


2003 Fall Interviewing Program Classes of '04 & '05

Information regarding the Fall On-Campus Interviewing Program ("OCI") will be available as of Monday, July 14th at 5:00 p.m. through the career services office web site. Check your e-mail that day for a message concerning important program dates and password information.

Please note: a resume review by a career services advisor prior to August 29th is mandatory for all who choose to participate in the interview program. Please call the office at (312) 906-5200 to make an appointment. As appointments tend to fill up near the start of the academic term, it is advised that you schedule an appointment soon. The office is open during the summer months.

Please also note: On Tuesday, August 26 at Noon and 5:00 p.m. there will be a mandatory meeting for all new OCI participants, which will outline the on-line bidding system and provide other pertinent information. You may attend either the noon or 5:15 p.m. session. If you participated last year you need not attend the meeting unless you feel you need a refresher on the bidding system.

Get Paid to Participate in a Market Research Interview

On July 9th and 10th, Focuscope will be conducting market research interviews to evaluate a prototype for possible changes in an online legal research tool. These interviews will take place at a downtown Chicago location and will run about 1.5 hours. Participants will receive $75 at the end of the discussion. If interested, call 708-445-5651.

Environmental Protection Agency Summer 2004 Honors Program

The EPA Office of General Counsel is seeking applications for the 2004 Summer Honors Program. Students must have completed their 2nd year of law school (or third year for evening students) by the time the program starts. The program is 12 weeks and pays approximately $15/hour. Fellowships Available

Request for Fellowship Proposals

Community Legal Services, Inc. will sponsor candidates for post graduate public interest fellowships provided by the Skadden Fellowship Foundation, Independence Foundation, and Equal Justice Works for positions to commence in September, 2004. See handout # 43 for complete details. All applications must be submitted by July 15, 2003.

The Spring 2003 Judicial Yellow Book is now available in the library as part of the reference collection.

Job Postings

All employment opportunities, paid or unpaid, clerking or volunteer, internship or externship, or fellowship, can be found in the new LawMatch system. To access this system, go to the current job posting system and click on the link for LawMatch Job Listings. Register yourself as a user, even if you have previously registered with LawMatch through another avenue. You will then be allowed to access the job postings. If you have your old password and student ID, please continue using them. If you haven't received your password, please contact the Career Services Office to get it. Remember to use the dashes in your Social Security # when entering your username and password.

PSLawNet Fellowship Corner

Interested in pursuing a fellowship upon graduation? Then be sure to check out PSLawNet's new "Fellowship Corner" which includes the full text of Yale's Fellowship Application Tips for 2002-2003, along with the expanded Appendix listing print and online fellowship resources. The site also contains a Fellowship Calendar with a chronological listing of application deadlines--a big help for potential applicants in planning and preparing their materials. Students can access the Fellowship Corner at the top of the left sidebar menu on the PSLawNet home page.

Chicago Area Law Firm List

Last Fall the Chicago Area Law Firm List, also known as the 4 or More List became available on-line in a password protected searchable database. Although every attempt is made at keeping the database current, some information may become out of date due to firm mergers, contact people leaving their firms, etc., it's suggested that all information be double-checked prior to sending out any cover letters and resumes. If you should learn of any changes, please notify our office via e-mail so we can update the database accordingly. Please contact for the password to access the list. Please note, the password for this site is not the same as your job posting password.
