Programs/Seminars
Intro to Fall on Campus Interviewing
Thursday, April
20th at 5:15 p.m. Room 590
During the fall, legal employers will either
come on-campus to interview students, or request resumes
directly from students for summer associate and entry-level
attorney positions. Members of the CSO will discuss the
on-campus interview process, contacting employers directly,
what to do if you do not meet a particular employer's
hiring criteria and how to prepare over the summer. In
addition, the information will assist students participating
in the Patent Law Interview Program, Cook County Bar Association
Minority Job Fair, and other interviewing opportunities.
1L Day students who plan to participate in the interview
program next fall are strongly encouraged to attend this
program. 2L Day/Evening & 3L Evening students who
have not previously participated but intend to next year
should also be sure to attend.
If you're a 1L evening student switching
to the day program and will fulfill all requirements to
graduate by May 2005, you must notify our office of your
division change.
Please note: 2005 graduates (including December
2004 graduates) interested in working for the Cook County
State's Attorney's Office must register for an on-campus
interview in order to be considered for employment with
their office.
Postgraduate Fellowship Opportunities Program
Postgraduate fellowships provide a unique
opportunity to practice law for a public interest organization
that may not otherwise be hiring full-time entry level
attorneys. Panelist will describe their unique fellowship
experiences and provide valuable tips on the application
process including identifying organizations, developing
project proposals, and obtaining fellowship funding. Career
Services staff will provide resources to identify public
interest organizations, fellowship opportunities, and
sources of funding. This program is open to all
law students but will be particularly relevant for 2L’s
and even 1L’s who should start researching organizations
and obtaining ideas due to deadlines beginning in early
fall, one year in advance of the commencement of the fellowship
term. Program will occur on April
20th at Noon in Room 210. For questions, contact
mkushnir@kentlaw.edu.
Guest speakers: Wamaid Mestey-Borges,
former National Association for Public Interest Law Fellow
at Whitman-Walker Clinic; Claudia Valenzuela, current
Equal Justice Works Fellow at Heartland Alliance-Midwest
Immigrant Rights Center; Professor Carolyn Shapiro, former
Skadden Fellow at National Center on Poverty Law; Hina
Sodha, current Equal Justice Works Fellow at Legal Assistance
Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
