Career Services Launches Public Interest
Law Website
The career services office invites you to
view it’s newly launched Public Interest Law Careers website.
The information in this site is intended to assist students
seeking public interest employment during the summer and
following graduation. Helpful job searching resources including
job search strategies, key summer programs and funding sources,
postgraduate fellowships, and law firm pro bono opportunities
are included. In addition, a comprehensive listing of public
interest and government links including links to public
interest job search sites, Illinois legal aid organizations,
nonprofit and public interest law organizations divided
by practice area as well as federal, state, and local government

Summer Office Hours
The Career Services Office will be open throughout the
summer. We will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
- Friday. Evening appointments with Career Strategists will
be available by appointment only on Thursdays, from 5 -
6:30 p.m. Please call the office at 312-906-5202.
Office Closing
The Career Services office will be closed
on May 11th and 12th. We will reopen on Thursday May 13th
at 8:30 a.m.
Programs/Seminars
Women Everywhere: Partners in Service Project
Do you want to help others, but you do
not have a lot of time? If so, please consider spending
just ONE day, May 14, 2004,
away from the office doing rewarding work with other volunteers
on behalf of women in need. Now in its fifth year, members
of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Greater Chicago,
Inc., Chicago Bar Association Alliance For Women, Chicago
Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Women in the Law
Committee, DuPage Women Lawyers Association, Hadassah
Attorneys Council, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois
Latina Lawyers Committee, Illinois State Bar Association
Minority and Women Participation Committee, Illinois State
Bar Association Women and the Law Committee, and the Women’s
Bar Association of Illinois collectively present the “Women
Everywhere: Partners in Service Project.” On May 14,
2004, Women Everywhere volunteers will contribute their
workday to a preselected community service agency dedicated
to helping women in need or to an educational project
benefiting young women and girls. Women Everywhere agency
activities include direct service tasks, such as painting,
building, gardening or cleaning, as well as legal education
projects, such as presenting topical seminars and workshops,
or providing job training information. If you are interested
in participating in any of these exciting activities,
please pick up a copy of an application form from the
Career Services Office or contact Melanie Kushnir at mkushnir@kentlaw.edu
with any questions.
Job Fairs
National Black Prosecutors Association
Conference and Job Fair
The National Black Prosecutors Association
(NBPA) 21st Annual Convention will occur July
18, 2004 – July 24, 2004 at the Marriott Hotel – Renaissance
Center in Detroit, Michigan. In addition to
a comprehensive legal training program for prosecutors,
the conference will host the NBPA Job Fair on July
20, 2004. The NBPA Job Fair provides a forum for law
school students, recent law school graduates and experienced
attorneys from across the nation to meet and interview
for prospective employment in prosecutors’ offices at
the local, state and federal levels. The job fair will
be followed by an evening reception. The student/alumni
rate for attending the Job Fair and Reception is $50.00.
If a student wishes to attend the workshops and/or seminars
at the convention, the fee is an additional $60.00 or
$110.00 per student. Completed
registration forms with a check for the appropriate amount
must be received by July, 2, 2004. For further
information including the registration form, pick up a
copy of handout # 43 in the career services office. Alternatively,

NYU Press Seeking Temporary Help
NYU Press seeks one or two students
for short-term work the weekend of May
27-30th to help with NYUP's exhibit
at the Law and Society Association meeting at
the Renaissance Chicago Hotel. Students would
help take orders and watch over the NYUP booth.
Pay would be $10/hour, a conference badge,
and any NYUP books they may want. The
conference is May 27-30 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

International
Internship Program
The ABA section
of International Law and Practice's Law Student
and New Lawyer Outreach Committee is launching
an international internship program. The internship
program is intended to facilitate the establishment
of legal internships for US law students interested
in the practice of international law with overseas
law firms. This program is for 1L's, 2L's, 3L's

Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman Minority
Scholars Program 2004 Application
Minority law students are eligible
to apply for the Katten Muchin Rosenman Minority
Scholars Program. One $15,000 scholarship will
be awarded to a student of color participating
in the 2005 Summer Associate Program. The recipient
will be selected based on several criteria, including
superior academic achievement, leadership experience
and personal qualities that reflect the potential
for outstanding contributions to Katten Muchin
Zavis Rosenman and the legal profession. Completed
applications must be mailed by August 31, 2004.

Kane County Resume Bank for Law
Students
The Kane County Bar Association
is pleased to announce the formation of a "Resume
Bank" for law students interested in working
in Kane County on a temporary or part-time basis.
This program will increase job opportunities for
law students and also be a resource for Association
members who are looking to fill "summer associate,"
law clerk or other temporary law student positions
in their firms.
Interested law students are invited
to mail a completed brief questionnaire and a
current resume to the KCBA office. A writing sample
and references should be included with the application.
The questionnaire and submitted materials will
be kept on file in the KCBA office. See handout
#39 in the Career Services Office for the application.

Jobs Available: Equal Justice Works Summer Corp
2004 Program
Equal Justice Works will be administering
the 2004 Summer Corps program this summer. Summer
Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that provides
200 law students with the opportunity to earn
a $1,000 education award voucher for spending
the summer in a qualifying internship at a non-profit,
public interest organization. Summer Corps members
provide critically needed legal assistance in
low-income or underserved communities in the US
on a broad range of issue areas. For more information
