Fellowship & Scholarship Information

Fellowship Opportunities: Attention 1Ls & 2Ls

While you spend your summer working at a legal aid organization, consider developing a post-graduate fellowship proposal with the attorneys on staff at your organization. Two primary organizations that fund post-graduate fellowship opportunities are Equal Justice Works and Skadden Fellowships. Students who develop fellowship proposals often apply for both an Equal Justice Works Fellowship and a Skadden Fellowship. For 2Ls, the application for an Equal Justice Works Fellowship is due on September 19, 2006 and the application for a Skadden Fellowship is October 4th, 2006.

For 1Ls, work to develop a relationship with your summer legal aid employer and talk with that employer about any legal needs they have that are not currently being met with an eye toward developing a fellowship proposal. Your first summer is a good time to start considering this possibility.

In addition to post-graduate Fellowships that you develop in conjunction with a legal aid organization, there are post-graduate fellowship opportunities available at other organizations that have their own application process. Information on these fellowships is accessible at in the “Fellowship Corner.” You will need to use your email address to log-in and create your own password, if you are not already registered on PSLawnet (NALP’s Public Service Law Network).

If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Mohr Vodenik.

Chicago Area Law Firm List

The Chicago Area Law Firm List of firms with four or more attorneys is available on-line in a password protected searchable database. Use this resource to identify local law firms that practice in the area(s) and then create a mail merge by using the spreadsheet tool. Although every attempt is made at keeping the database current, information may become out of date due to firm mergers, contact people leaving their firms, etc. Therefore, it's suggested that all information be double-checked prior to sending out any cover letters and resumes. If you should learn of any changes, please notify our office via e-mail so we can update the database accordingly. Please contact for the password to access the list.
