CSO Information & Announcements
Summer Office Hours
The Career Services Office maintains regular hours during the summer, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. Evening appointments with career counselors are available by appointment only on Wednesdays, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Please call the office at (312) 906-5200 to arrange a time or email, stating the times that you are available, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please let us know how we can assist you--whether it is a current transition, preparing for graduation, or just a "quick question." Individual appointments, programming, and a wealth of resources are all available through our office.
Attention Visiting and Transfer Students
Please contact our office, email@example.com, or come to suite 360, so that we can inform you of our services and programs, set up an initial meeting to review your resume and career goals, and give you information on upcoming recruitment and employment opportunities. Make an appointment early, as our office tends to get very busy once classes start. Also, make sure that we get your Campus Wide ID number so that we can grant you access to our job posting system. If you plan on participating in FOCI, we recommend that you contact our office as soon as possible, so we may set you up on Symplicity (for access to the employers coming on campus) and to schedule an appointment for a mandatory resume review. It is important to keep your resume up to date and for us to know your interests and career goals so that we can best assist you. Stop by suite 360 or call 312.906.5200.
The Career Services Office would like congratulate all the Spring 2007 graduates on this tremendous achievement and we wish you the best in your future endeavors. Remember to update your resume to reflect that you have received your Juris Doctor.
If you are seeking employment, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment with a career counselor during BarBri. Even if you don’t plan to actively pursue an opportunity until after the bar exam, it’s never too early to consider all of your employment options. For those of you relocating or changing addresses after graduation, please inform our office of your new contact information. We will keep you in mind when we hear of employment opportunities, can connect you with alumnae/i in your new location, and will provide you with updates regarding the services of our office.

2007 FALL INTERVIEWING PROGRAM UPDATE
JUST A REMINDER: The Fall On-Campus Interviewing information will be uploaded to the Career Services Website on July 10th, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. We strongly recommend that you review all of the information in the Fall Interview Program section of our web page at http://www.kentlaw.edu/depts/cso/students/foci/.
Students will also be able to access all participating employer information after 5:00 p.m. on July 10th at: https://law-kent-csm.symplicity.com. To get access to Symplicity, you need a username and password. Your username is your email address. If you do not know your password, please click on the "Forgot My Password" tab on the Symplicity home page, and (assuming the email address you enter is the same as the one you have in your student profile on Symplicity), you'll receive an email message resetting your password. If that does not work, send an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your Symplicity username and password for the fall OCI program are the same ones you which allows you to use our job posting system.
Researching Employers Sessions
How do you find information on the employers that are coming to interview on campus this fall? Where do you look to get the facts about them to show that you are as interested in them as you want them to be in you? Come to the researching sessions and discover how to get the information that will help you impress potential employers. Researching Sessions will be held in the Career Services Office on the following dates:

Other Important OCI Dates to Remember
Remember that your resume must be reviewed by August 30th at Noon. Please call the office at (312) 906-5200 to make an appointment. As appointments tend to fill up near the start of the academic term, it is advised that you schedule an appointment soon.
Tuesday, August 28th: Mandatory meeting for new participants at 12:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. in the Auditorium. You may attend either session.
Bidding begins at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28th and ends at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31st. All FOCI materials must be turned in to our office by noon on August 31st.

The Summer Adoption Law Institute
Capital University Law School, the only American law school to regularly offer an entire course dedicated to adoption law, is pleased to offer students from accredited law schools across the country the opportunity to attend the Summer Adoption Law Institute – a two-credit, intensive week-long course that will explore adoption and related child protection issues from both academic and practitioner perspectives. With approval of their home institutions, students from accredited law schools across the country may enroll as visiting or transient students. Greenberg Traurig Seeking Student Volunteers for Mediation Training
Greenberg Traurig, LLP is conducting its second annual in-house mediation training
program in Chicago, and is looking for people to serve as “clients” for a mock mediation.
During the two-day training, the GT attorneys will engage in three different mediations,
with GT shareholders and other experienced mediators serving as the mediators. To
make these mediations as realistic as possible, GT would like to provide the attorneys
with “clients” who will be present at the mediations with their attorneys, and who will
interact with their attorneys just as would happen in real life.
The only preparation involved is to read through the short case file in advance (this will
be provided to you at least a week before the mediations), which will lay out the facts of
the dispute that is being mediated. Each “client” will also receive a short (1 page)
coaching script telling you how to play your role (e.g., difficult and demanding, reticent
and indecisive, etc.) and perhaps providing you with a few facts that even your attorney
does not yet know about. You will have an opportunity to raise any questions you may
have in advance of the mediation sessions concerning any aspect of your “client” role.
You will be paid $75 for serving as a client in a mediation. The training dates are Monday, July 23, and Tuesday, July 24, both morning and afternoon sessions.

Fellowships & Scholarships
Latham Diversity Scholars Program
Latham & Watkins is once again pleased to announce the Latham Diversity Scholars Program which will award a $10,000 non-renewable scholarship to each of four second-year law students for use during their third year of law school (2008-09). Factors considered in choosing the Latham Diversity Scholars will include a candidate’s:
- Ability and commitment to contribute to the diversity objectives of global law firms,
- Life experiences that have shaped values and that provide a unique perspective, including any obstacles or challenges faced in choosing or pursuing law as a profession,
- Academic and/or leadership achievements, and
- Desire to practice in a global law firm environment.
Scholars will be asked to submit an application form, personal statement, resume and official or unofficial law school transcript by September 15, 2007. This scholarship is not contingent upon receiving or accepting an offer of employment at Latham. Rather, it is open to all law students in the hope that greater diversity among the attorneys at large law firms will benefit the entire profession. 2007 Tri-State Diversity Recruiting Program
The Tri-State Diversity Recruiting Program, held this year in Covington, Kentucky, offers second and third year law school students the opportunity to interview for summer associate and entry-level psoitions with prominent regional and national employers. Employers from Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky will be present. The Conference takes place August 24th-25th. The registration deadline is Friday, July 20th. Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair
The Third Annual Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (HDLJF), will be held September 7-8, 2007 at the Kansas City Marriott Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Last year, Kansas City played host to 143 students from 48 Law Schools from across the nation. The students had the opportunity to interview with 35 area law firms, organizations and government agencies.
The 2007 HDLJF will offer students the same opportunities as the past two years. Over 150 student registrants and nearly 40 employers are anticipated. This year's job fair will begin with a Welcome Reception on Friday evening. Employer interviews will be conducted on Saturday, along with a Keynote Luncheon. In addition, a resource room will be available where students can visit exhibitors or visit with HDLJF Ambassadors regarding Being a Lawyer in Kansas City, KC Nightlife, Kansas City Real Estate and Cost of Living, and Networking and Interviewing Tips.

Vault Legal Diversity Fair
Vault has partnered with the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), an advocate for increased diversity in the legal profession, to produce a series of legal diversity career fairs for law students and lateral associates. The Chicago career fair will be held on August 13th and 14th at the McCormick Place Convention Center.
This fair is open to the following students:
- Minority, female and GLBT 1Ls who are researching employers in preparation for fall recruiting
- Minority, female and GLBT 2Ls and 3Ls who have not yet committed to a firm or other employer
- Minority, female and GLBT lateral associates who are looking for new opportunities

Don’t Miss Registration Deadlines:
Register for Diversity Job Fairs around the U.S.
In addition to the Cook County Bar Association Minority Law Student Job Fair, there are diversity job fairs in Kansas City, Denver, Minneapolis, Northern Kentucky, Seattle, San Francisco and a host of other places. There are also job fairs specific to law students with disabilities and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender law students. The Northwest Minority Job Fair in Seattle has the earliest deadline of April 13, 2007, while most other job fairs have later deadlines. International Career Employment Weekly's goal is to make it easy for international professionals to keep abreast of all current job opportunities in their field.
