Make-up Procedures for "What's Next for Fall?"
If you were unable to attend this year's Mandatory What’s Next for Fall Programs held in April, you must follow the steps outlined below:
1) Watch the video of the April 19 What’s Next for Fall Program Program. Click here to be taken to the Program & Videos page.
2) Complete, sign and submit the What’s Next for Fall Registration Sheet to the main Career Services Office in Suite 360 by 5 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011.
3) In addition, if after viewing the video you decide that you would like to participate in Fall Recruiting 2011, you must complete the Mandatory Fall Recruiting Program Make-up Questionnaire, and submit it to the main Career Services Office in Suite 360 also by 5 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011.
4) Review the Resource Sheets referenced in the program on-line (PDF links are listed on the Programs & Videos page or in the Fall Recruiting section of the kentlaw.edu website under “Make-up Procedures.”) Alternatively, you can pick up copies of the handouts in the main Career Services Office.
Summer Resume Books Go Live May 16
Updated Resume Books are being created for this summer!
Summer Resume Books will be available for “opt-in” beginning May 2, 2011 for all rising 2Ls, 3Ls and Recent Graduates (2010 and 2011 classes). Even if you have secured employment for this summer, keep in mind that summer resume books may be used by employers for hiring for Fall 2011.
As a reminder, a Resume Book is exactly what it sounds like, a collection of resumes that can be distributed to employers on request. Our resume books will collect the resumes of students and recent graduates in a particular class (e.g. 2Ls) with similar interests (e.g. immigration law, real estate law, or working in the northern suburbs), and then notify employers who fit those criteria that the books are available for review. These books can also be used when an employer calls up our office looking for a particular type of student to clerk for them (“We are looking for a 3L interested in litigation who has worked as a 711 clerk.”), so that we can respond quickly and efficiently to employer requests (in that case by looking at the 3L Litigation Resume Book for students who have been 711 clerks).

The Career Services Office remains open with its regular hours throughout the summer time, and continues to provide students and graduates with the same counseling, resume review, and other services. Please don’t hesitate to come in, call or email!
CSO Program Videos Now Available Online!
The Career Services Office is pleased to announce that videos of our programming are now available to be viewed online. Most of our programming will be available on our website within 1-2 days of the original program date and will remain available for viewing for 2-3 weeks, due to limited server space. Program videotapes will still be available in our office. A password is required to view these programs. Please call our office at 312-906-5200 or email email@example.com for the username and password. Don't Forget to Report Callbacks and Offers!
If you receive callbacks/offers during the fall interview season, please report this to our office by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org every couple weeks or so. Please include from what source you obtained the interview/offer (OCI, resume collect, CCBA job fair, Loyola Patent Fair, etc.). We keep track of these in order to determine how students are doing and where our students end up working during the summer/after graduation. Also, if you have any concerns about how your interviews are progressing or questions about the interview process, please make an appointment to talk with a career counselor.

AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee - Minority Outreach Program
The AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee created the LCC Minority Outreach Program to encourage diverse law students to apply for summer clerkship opportunities at LCC law firms and legal departments. The outreach program seeks to introduce diverse law students to the practice of law in the labor movement and to encourage them to join the ranks of union-side attorneys in the ongoing battle for social and economic justice.
The program includes a networking conference, at the conclusion of which, students are placed in the LCC Mentor Program. Through this program LCC attorneys provide guidance and support during and after the students' clerkships. Reed Smith 2011 Diverse Scholars Program
Reed Smith is pleased to present its 2011 Diverse Scholars Program. The Diverse Scholars Program provides several $15,000 awards toward tuition for the second year of law school, as well as a paid summer associate position after completion of the second year of law school. The program is open to first-year law students who have demonstrated excellent academic scholarship and a commitment to diversity, inclusion and community. Summer associate positions in 2012 are available in Chicago; Falls Church, VA; Los Angeles; San Francisco; New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh; and Washington, D.C.
Scholarship applicants must submit a resume, a completed application, two personal statements, law school transcript, undergraduate transcript and a legal writing sample. Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship
Baker Donelson Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz is accepting applications for its 2011 Diversity Scholarship. Baker Donelson will be awarding three scholarships to diverse students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2011 (be rising 2L students in fall 2011).
Each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid during the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses. Additionally, recipients will be awarded a six-week salaried 2L Summer Associate position for summer 2012 in one of Baker Donelson's following offices: Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA; Jackson, MS; or Chattanooga, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, TN.

Registration Now Open for LGBT Bar Association Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair

Each year the National LGBT Bar Association hosts the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair to bring together the best and brightest legal minds in the LGBT community. The three-day conference draws over 1,200 attendees and features over 35 workshops and panel discussions. The career fair, held on the first day of the conference draws over 500 students and features over 130 recruiters.

Registration is Now Open for the 2011 Cook County Bar Association (CCBA) Minority Law Student Job Fair

Registration for the 28th Annual Cook County Bar Association (CCBA) Minority Law Student Job Fair opens on Monday, April 18. The Job Fair will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011. Students in the classes of 2012 and 2013 are invited to participate in this job fair. Students graduating in any month prior to December 2011 are not eligible to participate. Each student must register and upload their resume by Tuesday, May 31, 2011. There will be no exceptions to the deadline and no walk ins will be allowed.
It takes several days for your account to be approved and for you to be able to upload your resume, so please register ASAP and do not wait until a day or two before the deadline to register. Please also keep in mind that technical difficulties may delay the registration process even further.

All students must create a new account. If you are a rising 3L who participated in the job fair last year, please do not use your old log in information. Please do not use your Chicago-Kent Symplicity information. This is an entirely different Symplicity site. Because you will receive information via email, it is critical that all students create their profiles using an email address which they check regularly and through which they can be reached both now and this summer.

After the registration deadline, job fair personnel and school liaisons will verify that each registered student meets the job fair criteria regarding graduation dates, etc. All properly registered students will have the opportunity to bid for 25 ranked employer selections from approximately June 11, 2011 through June 19, 2011. All student bids must be completed by Sunday, June 19, 2011 at midnight - there will be no exceptions.
Please note that the CCBA Job Fair is primarily designed to obtain summer positions for rising 2Ls (current 1Ls) during their second summer in law school. A limited number of employers also wish to interview rising 3L students (current 2Ls) for entry level positions. Rising 3Ls, please be aware that job fair interview slots for rising 2Ls typically outnumber those for rising 3Ls by a 3:1 ratio.
States represented by past employer participants include: California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin. The anticipated number of employer participants is 150 and will include:

Registration Now Open for the 2011 Heartland Diversity legal Job Fair
The Heartland Diversity Job Fair (HDLJF) will be held on August 5-6, 2011 in Kansas City Missouri at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The HDLJF is the result of Kansas City's leading law firms, legal associations, and corporate legal departments coming together to encourage students to practice law in Kansas City.
All rising 2L (graduating in 2013) and rising 3L (graduating in 2012) law students and 2011 law grads may participate. There is no fee for students to register. The event will kick off with registration, a diversity panel discussion and a welcome reception on Friday, August 5th at a location which will be announced at a later date. Interviewing will begin at 8:30am on Saturday with a keynote luncheon.
Students registering before May 20th will receive an extra entry into the drawing for door prizes at the keynote luncheon. The Crowne Plaza Hotel will also have a limited number of $50 hotel rooms reserved for students participating in the job fair. The final deadline for registration will be June 22, 2011.

The Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) is a consortium of over 40 of the largest law firms, government agencies, and corporations in Boston. Its mission is to promote the hiring, retention, and professional development of attorneys of color in its member organizations. A primary goal of the BLG is to increase the number of law students of color that member organizations hire for their Boston office. One of the significant ways in which this goal is accomplished, is through member participation in the annual BLG Job Fairs in Boston and D.C.
Employers who participate in either job fair hire only for positions in their Boston office. To be eligible to participate in the job fairs students must be rising second-year law students (or rising 3Ls if the student is in a 4-year program). Employers will be interviewing for 2012 summer associate/law clerk positions. Students who have been selected for one or more interviews can potentially obtain additional interviews through the lottery selection process. Students may only register for one fair.
Student registration ends at midnight on July 8, 2011. Please note that students are not allowed to bid, instead, participating BLG Members select the students they wish to interview. Registration Now Open for Rocky Mountain Diversity Legal Career Fair

The Rocky Mountain Diversity Legal Career Fair (RMDLCF) provides an excellent forum for legal employers, law students and law school graduates to meet and discuss employment options with the goal of expanding opportunities and assisting the legal profession in fulfilling its commitment to diversity. Legal employers attending the RMDLCF seek to hire law students and graduates from diverse backgrounds that have been traditionally under-represented in the practice of law in the Rocky Mountain region. These include law students and graduates who are ethnic or racial minorities, disabled, and/or gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
Law students and recent law school graduates are invited to register and attend the RMDLCF and to apply for twenty-minute scheduled interviews with participating employers. Registation opens on April 15, 2011 and the registration deadline is July 25, 2011.

National Black Prosecutor's Association Annual Job Fair
The goal of the National Black Prosecutors Association's (NBPA) Job Fair is to promote diversity in prosecutor's offices. The Job fair will provide a unique forum where law students, recent law graduates, and experienced attorneys from across the nation can meet and interview with prospective prosecutorial employers at the local, state, and federal levels. This year's job fair will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The job fair is being held in conjunction with the NBPA Annual Conference, which is being held July 24-July 30, 2011.
At the culmination of the job fair, there will be a reception for all job fair participants and convention attendees. The reception will afford job fair attendees an additional opportunity to further network with prospective employers and experienced prosecutors. The early registration fee for the job fair is $25 for law students and 2011 law school graduates and $50 for experienced attorneys. After May 20, the registration fee will go up to $50 for law students and 2011 law school graduates and $75 for experienced attorneys.
In addition to the job fair reception, all job fair participants are invited to attend a free career seminar entitled "Strategies for a Successful Interview." The seminar will take place on Monday, July 25th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center and will provide job fair participants with effective interviewing tips.
Job fair attendees are welcome to attend the entire conference. Students and 2011 law school graduates are invited to attend conference seminars for free. However, other events such as luncheons, dinners and receptions must be paid for separately.

St. Louis Diversity Job Fair
Date: August 19-20, 2011
The St. Louis Diversity Job Fair is being held August 19-20, 2011. J.D. students in the classes of 2012 and 2013 (rising 3Ls and 2Ls) are invited to participate. The Job Fair will kick off with a Welcome Reception on Friday, August 19, from 5:30pm - 7:30pm during which employers and students will have the opportunity to meet on a more informal basis. Students who did not receive a formal interview with employers will also get an opportunity to network with employers. Interviews will be held Saturday, August 20 from 8:30am - 4:30pm. The Welcome Reception and Job Fair venues will be determined in the next several weeks and the information will be posted on the St. Louis Diversity Job Fair Website.
Once a student registers for the job fair, they will be given information regarding participating employers' hiring criteria, offices/cities for which each employer is interviewing, and J.D. year(s) required by the employer. Students are required to pay a $25 registration fee. Please note that it may take up to one business day for the initial registration to be approved.

Registration Now Open for Indianapolis Bar Association Diversity Job Fair
The Indianapolis Bar Association (IndyBar) cordially invites rising full time 2L law students (graduating in May 2013) or part-time 2L and 3L students (graduating 2013/2014) to participate in the IndyBar Diversity Job Fair. The IndyBar is seeking candidates who represent all aspects of diversity, who are looking for a one-of-a-kind legal community in a Midwestern city that has both cosmopolitan style and small-town charm. In 2010, 20 firm, government and corporate legal employers interviewed over 70 student candidates and dozens of offers were made and accepted.
The IndyBar Diversity Job Fair will be held August 18-19, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Downtown Indianapolis. Student registration opens on April 1, 2011 and there is no fee to register. Students will register for the Job Fair via the job fair's Symplicity web site at https://law-indybar-csm.symplicity.com/students/. Please do not confuse the job fair's Symplicity site with your particular law school's Symplicity site and password. Once you submit your registration, an automatically-generated password will be provided, which will enable you to use the system throughout the next few months. Since summer is drawing near, we want to make you aware of ASPIRE, a program for students who pursue public interest work during the summer or after they graduate from law school. LexisNexis, your partner in legal education, provides qualified law students and recent law school graduates with free access to some of the most popular sources available within our research system. Students face a heightened challenge securing internships and launching their legal careers in a tough economy. For this reason, LexisNexis has expanded the ASPIRE program to include non-profit summer positions for current students, as well as graduates who pursue public interest legal work as a career. Access the BYU Intercollegiate Job Bank
Kent students and alumni now have an additional resource for their job searches. The BYU Intercollegiate Job Bank compiles entry level job postings from schools throughout the country. This resource will be especially useful for students and alumni conducting an out-of-town job search, but through this service you can also access the postings of other Illinois and Chicago area schools. To access this resource, log into Symplicity and select the “Documents” tab. Within Documents, select “Document Library.” The link for the Job Bank will be listed there. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with a username and password, which you should write down before clicking the link. The link takes you to the BYU Alumni page, and the Job Bank is about halfway down the page. After clicking that link you will be prompted to enter the user name and password. Then you will have access to a drop list of all 50 states. Picking a state will give you access to the job postings from the schools in that state. If you have any difficulties accessing the Job Bank, please contact the Career Services Office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin is now offering a free on-line Legal Employment Weekly e-blast of open jobs in the Chicago area. Every issue contains up-to-date job postings, an article and sign-up sheet from the Illinois Paralegal Association, and an Ask an Expert column. - If you are a JD student your Class Year will be three characters. The first letter for all class years will be L. The second letter is your division. The third is your year number.
Examples: A 2nd year night student’s class year is LN2. A 1st year day student’s class year is LD1.
During your first time login you will create a username and password. Afterwards, you may log in directly at www.alumni.kentlaw.edu/advisorsearch using the username and password you created.
