Please come in by February 14th to have your resume reviewed, meet your career advisor, and begin to develop a job search strategy. If you are a 2L/3L/4L and you did not come in during Fall of 2013, please make an appointment. Thank you.

CSO Seeks Student Worker

The Career Services Office seeks a student worker for Spring 2014 for a paid position.  Flexible hours, though preference is for 10-15 hours per week.  Duties will include data entry; maintenance of active job postings; organization of resources; scheduling appointments; calls to employers and potential speakers; answering phones; and front desk reception work.

Interested students should submit resumes to kentcso@kentlaw.iit.edu by Friday, January 31, 2014 with "CSO Position" in the email subject line. Please also indicate approximate days and hours of availability.

Resume books will open on Thursday, January 23! Looking for a job? Be sure to put your Resume in the books

Spring Resume Books will be available on Thursday, January 23rd for “opt-in” for all rising 2Ls, 3Ls and Recent Graduates (2012 and 2013 classes). Employers will be notified that resume books are available soon thereafter, but because employers may request a resume book at any time, students are encouraged to opt-in to desired resume books as soon as possible. Even if you have secured employment for this spring, keep in mind that spring resume books may be used by employers for hiring for Spring or Summer 2014.

As a reminder, a Resume Book is exactly what it sounds like, a collection of resumes that can be distributed to employers on request. Our resume books will collect the resumes of students and recent graduates in a particular class (e.g. 2Ls) with similar interests (e.g. immigration law, real estate law, or working in the northern suburbs), and then notify employers who fit those criteria that the books are available for review. These books can also be used when an employer calls up our office looking for a particular type of student to clerk for them (“We are looking for a 3L interested in litigation who has worked as a 711 clerk.”), so that we can respond quickly and efficiently to employer requests (in that case by looking at the 3L Litigation Resume Book for students who have been 711 clerks).

For more information about Resume Books, click here.

ASCK Week (Alumni-Student Connections Week!): Mark your calendar now: February 17 - 21

Alumni-Student Connections Week will take place Feburary 17-21, 2014. The week will feature two days of informational interviews, one day of mock interviews, two days of "coffee connections," an alumni panel, and a student/alumni reception. Watch for the sign-ups to open in the first week of February.

Chicago Schweitzer Fellowship Program

The Chicago Schweitzer Fellows Program® is a one-year interdisciplinary, mentored fellowship program focused on health-related community service and leadership development.

DEFINING HEALTH
Schweitzer Fellows focus on health as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO): a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.  Rooted in this holistic understanding of health, Schweitzer projects address not only clinical health issues, but also the social determinants of health—defined by the WHO as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, and which are mostly responsible for health inequities.

ELIGIBILITY
Students enrolled in graduate or professional degree-granting programs from any accredited academic institution in the geographic area may apply. While the applicant’s field of study does not have to be traditionally health-related, his/her proposed service project must focus on health and/or the social determinants of health. Past Fellows have addressed health from a wide variety of perspectives and disciplines including, but not limited to, dentistry, education, engineering, law, medicine, music, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and social work. Applicants must be enrolled throughout the Fellowship year (May 2013-May 2014).  Applicants scheduled for a December graduation should contact the Program Director to determine if they are eligible for a waiver to this requirement.

PRIOR TO APPLYING
Prospective Fellows should be prepared to partner with a local community agency and design a community service project that seeks to provide direct service to an underserved population. This project should focus on addressing health and/or the social determinants of health in the population served.

The project should:

  • Provide a direct service that meets a community-defined need and reflects national and local health priorities, such as Healthy People 2020. Prospective applicants should investigate and reflect on unmet local health-related needs, and think through the ways in which their own energies and talents might contribute, even in small ways, to ameliorating one or more of these problems.
  • Be of an enduring value to the community/agency served.  The project proposal should include a brief discussion about sustainability of the project at the end of the Fellowship year.

Potential applicants may learn more and find an application here. The application deadline for the 2014-15 Fellowship year is Saturday, February 1, 2014.
