The video and handouts from "What's Next For Fall: Rising 2Ls" (the April 15 program for rising 2L (current 1L) students) are available online. Chicago-Kent has a NEW online video viewing website, go to http://kentlaw.hosted.panopto.com and login with your Chicago-Kent username and password.
Current 1L students who were unable to attend the "What's Next For Fall: Rising 2Ls" program on April 15 must watch the 20 minute video online and print and complete the "Student Registration Form" located to the right of the video. Please complete and return this form to the CSO offices (suite 360) by Friday, April 25, 2014.

Federal Work Study for Summer 2014: Apply Now!
Chicago-Kent will have limited Community-Based Federal Work Study funds available during Summer 2014. Chicago-Kent rising 2L & 3L students who are Federal Work Study eligible may be paid though Federal Work Study funds to work at government and public interest organizations outside of the law school. A very limited amount of funds are available, and students who have a federal work study award must list their summer employers on the application form. Please visit the Community-Based Federal Work Study webpage
for a more detailed explanation of this opportunity, as well as the form you need to complete in order to participate. Applications for Federal Work Study for Summer 2014 are accepted on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as possible!

Resume books are open! Looking for a job? Be sure to put your Resume in the books
Spring Resume Books are available for “opt-in” for all rising 2Ls, 3Ls and Recent Graduates (2012 and 2013 classes). Employers have been notified that resume books are available and may look at resumes any time throughout the semester, students are encouraged to opt-in if they are looking for an opportunity. Even if you have secured employment for this spring, keep in mind that spring resume books may be used by employers for hiring for Summer 2014.
A Resume Book is exactly what it sounds like, a collection of resumes that can be distributed to employers on request, or viewed by employer who log-in to Symplicity at any time. Our resume books collect the resumes of students and recent graduates in a particular class (e.g. 2Ls) with similar interests (e.g. immigration law, real estate law, or working in the northern suburbs), and then notify employers who fit those criteria that the books are available for review. These books can also be used when an employer calls up our office looking for a particular type of student to clerk for them (“We are looking for a 3L interested in litigation”), so that we can respond quickly and efficiently to employer requests (in that case by looking at the 3L Litigation Resume Book).

2014 Summer Access Program, Graduate ID program, and the Think Like a Lawyer Program, all designed to prepare students for practice. Stduents have full summer access to Lexis Advance and the spring training opportunities available. Summer 2014: All-Access to Lexis Advance (R) 1Ls & 2Ls: Students may continue to use their current Lexis Advance (R) Id for any purpose including work they perform at a law firm, corporation or government agency.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals to join SEC’s Student Honors Program for Fall 2014. The Student Honors Program is a ten-week (minimum) volunteer opportunity for law students to become acquainted with the regulation of the securities market and the activities of the Commission. Honor Students are assigned to work with SEC staff members on projects covering a broad range of the Commission's work. Projects can include the investigation of industry and issuer practices, litigation of civil enforcement actions and the drafting of proposed statutes and rules. Specific duties and responsibilities will vary according to the office or division of assignment. McGuireWoods 1L Diversity Scholarship
McGuireWoods is awarding up to 8 $5,000 scholarships this spring to diverse 1Ls. McGuireWoods’ annual Diversity Scholarship Program will award up to eight $5,000 scholarships to diverse current first-year law students with an expected graduation year of 2016, who are committed to contributing to and supporting diversity within the legal profession.
At McGuireWoods, we define diversity as recognizing and valuing the differences in our workforce. To us, diversity encompasses age, sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, marital status and veteran status, as well as educational and professional backgrounds.

Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship
Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated, and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. With this in mind, Baker Donelson will again award three scholarships to diverse law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2014. Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2015 in one of our Firm’s offices. Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses. The application deadline is June 10, 2014.

Reed Smith's 2014 Diverse Scholars Program
Reed Smith has a strong commitment to diversity which has resulted in a firm in which diversity and inclusion permeate the culture. Rewarding young future leaders for their efforts in the area of diversity and introducing them to the Reed Smith culture are two important goals of this program.
The Diverse Scholars Program provides two $15,000 awards toward tuition for the second year of law school, as well as a paid summer associate position after completion of the second year of law school. The program is open to first-year law students who have demonstrated excellent academic scholarship and a commitment to diversity, inclusion and community.
Scholarship applicants must submit a resume, a completed application, a personal statement, law school transcript, undergraduate transcript and a legal writing sample as part of the application process.
Summer associate positions in 2015 are available in: Chicago; Richmond, VA; Los Angeles; San Francisco; New York City; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Houston; and Washington, D.C. Applications must be postmarked by August 4, 2014.

Register Now: CCBA Minority Job Fair
The Cook County Bar Association ("CCBA") is pleased to invite minority J.D. students (Class of 2016 and Class of 2015) to participate in the 31st Annual CCBA Minority Law Student Job Fair ("Job Fair"). Please note that students graduating in any month prior to December 2013 (current 3Ls) are not eligible. All participating students must be from fully accredited law schools.
This year's Job Fair will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014. For more information, please see visit the CCBA informational website at www.ccbaminorityjobfair.org. The CCBA Job Fair primarily is designed to obtain summer associate positions for rising 2Ls (current 1Ls) during their second summer in law school. A limited number of employers also wish to interview rising 3Ls (current 2Ls) for entry-level associate positions. Rising 3Ls please be aware that Job Fair interview slots for rising 2Ls typically outnumber those for rising 3Ls by a 3:1 ratio.

The 10th Annual Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (HDLJF) will be held August 1-2, 2014, in Kansas City, Missouri. Students who are interested in becoming part of Kansas City’s dynamic legal community should strongly consider attending this event. Students who will be returning to school in August and those graduating in May are eligible to attend the job fair, as employers will be interviewing for both summer and post-graduate positions.
The HDLJF is the result of Kansas City's leading law firms, legal associations, and corporate legal departments coming together to encourage law students to practice law in Kansas City. The HDLJF is designed to expose law students of diverse backgrounds to both traditional and non-traditional legal employers. In addition, the event is a great way to learn more about living in this wonderful city.
The HDLJF will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It will kick off with an evening Welcome Reception on Friday, August 1st at 5:30p.m.. The Saturday schedule includes a continental breakfast, interviewing from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and a luncheon at which participants will be greeted and addressed by a special Keynote Speaker.
