Program on Gun Control

The Chicago-Kent Law and Humanities Institute, joined by the Student Bar Association, presented a program on Wednesday, November 10, about the City of Chicago's lawsuit against various gun manufacturers, dealers and distributors. The speakers, who outlined their legal theories for an audience of over 100 students, alums and guests, were Matthew Getter of Chicago's Corporation Counsel's Office, and Anne Kimball, partner in Wildman, Harrold, Allen and Dixon, for the defendants. A lively question and answer session followed.

Next semester the Law and Humanities Institute will present two additional programs on guns, one dealing with guns and culture, the other with the Second Amendment.

Talk on Human Rights in Cub

Mr. Luis Zuniga, an expert on human rights and former political prisoner from Cuba spoke on Tuesday, November 9 on "Human Rights Abuses and the U.S. Embargo of Cuba".  A discussion followed and was moderated by Professor Bartram Brown.

Talk on Establishing the Rule of Law in Kosovo

As Kosovo emerges from 50 years of Communism, nearly ten years of repression, and a devastating military conflict, one of its greatest challenges is to establish a governing structure based on the rule of law.   A panel included Peter Schuler, who served as a NATO lawyer in Bosnia and teaches a seminar on international policing, and Chicago-Kent assistant dean, Charles Rudnick, who just returned from two months in Kosovo, where he was coordinating a legal reconstruction program for the American Bar Association.

Dean Henry H. Perritt, Jr.
