Speaking Engagements
On 27 June, Dean Perritt, in his capacity of Secretary of the Section on
Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association reviewed labor
and employment cases of the most recent Supreme Court term for the LA County
Bar Association.
On 28 June, Dean Perritt spoke at the Annual Meeting of the National
Association of Secretaries of State in Baltimore encouraging the group
to use the Internet as much as possible to improve access to public information,
and to resist the temptation to establish state sponsored monopolies over
basic public information such as statutes and judicial opinions.
On 29 June, Dean Perritt testified before a Subcommittee of the House
Judiciary Committee in Washington on Internet Jurisdiction issues.
On 10 July, Dean Perritt and other leaders of the American Bar Association
held a press conference in New York on the completion of the Chicago-Kent/ABA
Internet Jurisdiction Project. On 17 July, Dean Perritt and
Professor Stewart presented the report of the Project at a Plenary Session
of the ABA’s Annual meeting in London.
Professor Ronald Staudt has succeeded in obtaining more than one-half
million dollars in grant funding for a major project involving Chicago-Kent,
IIT’s Institute for Design, and the National Center for State Courts to
understand how information technology can improve access to the legal poor
and moderate income persons.
Global Chicago
Chicago-Kent and the Library of International Relations have accepted the
MacArthur Foundation's request that the Global Chicago project be housed
at IIT’s Downtown Campus. Already the project Director, Marti Rabinowtich,
the Assistant Director, Scott Waguespack, and the Webmaster, Julian Mulla
are working out of their 3rd floor offices to achieve the goal of promoting
collaboration among the hundreds of organizations in Chicago interested
in foreign affairs.
New Appointment for Dean Perritt
Dean Perritt has been appointed to a three-year term on the Computer Science
and Telecommunications Board of the National Research Council.
Media Coverage for Chicago-Kent
The PreLaw Insider Magazine has three items about Chicago-Kent in the current
issue. Chicago-Kent is rated as one of the “hottest” law schools
in the country with a “temperature” of 81 degrees. Outgoing
SBA President, Paul Miller was quoted regarding distance learning, which
he supports enthusiastically. A picture of Chicago-Kent and Dean
Perritt lead a feature article on downsizing.
