Dean Perritt's Presentation at the
ABA 2000 Administrative Law Conference
Dean Perritt was a member of a panel at the ABA 2000 Administrative Law
Conference entitled "E-Commerce, Consumer Privacy Rights and Regulation:
Considering the Alternatives".
Richard Wright's Law Review Article
Professor Wright's article, The Principles of Justice, was recently
published in the August 2000 Propter Honoris Respectum issue of the Notre
Dame Law Review. The issue contains articles by a number of leading
legal philosophers in honor of John Finnis, the Professor of Law and Legal
Philosophy at the University of Oxford. In his article, Professor
Wright (1) summarizes the basic assumptions and principles of natural law
theory on the foundations of and relationships among morality, justice,
and law, (2) demonstrates the agreement of major natural law theorists,
from Aristotle through Aquinas and Kant to Finnis, on these basic assumptions
and principles, (3) distinguishes these basic assumptions and principles
from those of the competing theories of utilitarianism and economic efficiency,
and (4) clarifies the nature of and distinctions between the two divisions
of substantive justice: distributive justice and interactive justice.
Pristina Law Faculty Visit Chicago-Kent
The Global Law and Policy Initiative Office hosted a delegation of four
professors and one student from the Pristina Law Faculty in Kosovo.
The purpose of the visit was to exchange information about library development,
clinical programs, legal writing programs, and to engage in a dialogue
about international legal issues related to the recent conflict in Kosovo.
In regard to the clinical aspect of the visit, the professors learned how
we organize and teach our clinical program which they plan to incorporate
into their curriculum. The delegation attended sessions with Professor
Molly Lien's International Law class and the Legal Writing students from
Professor Doug Godfrey's Legal Writing One class. They also participated
in curriculum discussions with professors teaching Mediation, Family Law,
and Legal Writing. The highlight of the visit was the Roundtable Discussion
on Wednesday, Oct. 11 about the Future of Kosova. The public discussion
featured Chicago-Kent Dean Henry H. Perritt, Prof. Andrew Wachtel from
Northwestern University, Mr. Dieter Wolkewitz, Executive Representative
of the Office of International Mediator for Bosnia & Herzegovina, Vice-Dean
Rexhep Murati from Pristina Law Faculty and Chicago-Kent Asst. Dean Charles
Rudnick as the moderator.
