October 13: Dean’s Roundtable featuring Lee D. Augsburger, Class of 1987
Please join me on Monday, October 13, 2008, when alumnus Lee D. Augsburger, Class of 1987, will be our second Dean’s Roundtable speaker. Lee is Chief Compliance Officer for Prudential Financial. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the company’s global compliance organization of over 375 staff worldwide. Headquartered in Newark N.J., Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU) is a Fortune Global 500 and Fortune 500 company whose subsidiaries provide insurance, investment management, and other financial products and services to both retail and institutional customers throughout the US and in over 30 other countries.
Lee has spent his entire career in the financial services industry, beginning at Van Kampen Merrit and subsequently spending a number of years in private legal practice with the law firm Bell, Boyd & Lloyd. He later joined Smith Barney where he was deputy general counsel for its mutual fund organization. In addition, Lee was a director in PriceWaterhouse’s Regulatory Consulting Practice.
The Roundtable will convene at 12:00 p.m. in Room 800. Lunch will be served.

Order of the Coif Distinguished Visitor lecture: “From Agents to Partners: Toward a New Model of the Corporate Attorney-Client Relationship” with Professor David B. Wilkins, Harvard Law School
Chicago-Kent College of Law will host Harvard Law professor David B. Wilkins as the Order of the Coif Distinguished Visitor for 2008 on Wednesday, October 15th at 3:00p in the Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Courtroom. Professor Wilkins will address the topic, “From Agents to Partners: Toward a New Model of the Corporate Attorney-Client Relationship.”
The lecture will begin at 3:00 pm and will be followed by a reception at 4:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

David B. Wilkins is the Kirkland & Ellis Professor of Law and the director of both the Program on the Legal Profession and the Program on Lawyers and the Professional Services Industry at Harvard Law School. Professor Wilkins is also a Visiting Senior Research Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a faculty associate of the Harvard University Center in Ethics and the Professions.
A member of the Harvard Law School faculty since 1986, Professor Wilkins has written extensively on the legal profession, with an emphasis on the experiences of African-American lawyers in corporate law firms. He is the author of The Black Bar: The Legacy of Brown v. Board of Education and the Future of Race and the American Legal Profession (forthcoming, Oxford University Press), Problems in Professional Responsibility for a Changing Profession (Carolina Press 4th ed. 2002) (along with Andrew Kaufman), and more than 40 articles on legal ethics, law firms, and the legal profession in books, law reviews, and the legal and popular press.
Currently, Professor Wilkins is working on a project titled, “After the JD,” a nationwide longitudinal study of lawyers' careers, and an empirical investigation into how corporations purchase legal services.
A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Professor Wilkins served as a law clerk to Justice Thurgood Marshall of the Supreme Court and Judge Wilfred Feinberg of the United States Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Harvard's faculty, Professor Wilkins was an associate at the law firm of Nussbaum Owen & Webster in Washington, D.C.
October 17: Dean’s Roundtable featuring Ted Koenig, Class of 1983
Please join me on Friday, October 17, 2008, when alumnus Ted Koenig, Class of 1983, will be our third Dean’s Roundtable speaker.
Mr. Koenig is President, CEO and founder of Chicago-based Monroe Capital, and has over 25 years of experience in structuring, negotiating and investing in debt and equity transactions. Monroe Capital, founded in 2004, is an asset manager focusing on the specialty finance segment providing customized financing to middle-market companies based in the U.S. and Canada. Monroe Capital has invested over $1 billion of capital in the last five years in over 265 investment transactions. Prior to founding Monroe Capital, Mr. Koenig was President of Hilco Capital, a mezzanine debt fund and practiced law at Holleb & Coff and Winston & Strawn.
Mr. Koenig is also a Director of the Commercial Finance Association, a Director of the Turnaround Management Association, and a member of the Association for Corporate Growth. He is a member of the Chicago-Kent Board of Overseers and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Allendale School, a non-profit residential and educational facility for emotionally troubled children in the greater Chicago area.
