Tax 1098-T Forms: A Message
From The Bursar's Office
TRA97 Update:
1098-T forms used to claim tax credits for expenses paid for postsecondary education will be mailed out to qualifed students in the upcoming weeks.  As a result of the late release of IRS reporting requirement information from the federal government, schools are experiencing delays in 1098-T form mailings.  We are making every effort to supply students with this form as soon as possible.

For detailed information on forms, eligibility requirements and filing processes, please go to the "TRA97 RESOURCE PAGE" in the NACUBO web site (http://www.nacubo.org/).  If you do not receive your 1098-T form by 2/28/99, please contact the Bursar's Office at (312)906-5161.

Student Aid Report Deadline

The suggested priority deadline to send the 1999-2000 FAFSA was February 1, 1999.  If you have not completed your FAFSA, it should be done immediately.  Keep in mind that the FAFSA processing takes approximately 4 - 6 weeks in order to receive your Student Aid Report.  The firm deadline for Financial Aid to receive Student Aid Reports is APRIL 15, 1999.  If you have not already done so, complete your FAFSA today!  The Department of Education's web address for the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov

1999-2000 Financial Aid Packages
Students must pick up the FINANCIAL AID GUIDE AND APPLICATION materials in the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible.  Review your package of information carefully--deadline dates, a flow chart, express loan forms and more are included.  We have made some changes to the financial aid process for 1999-2000 and less paperwork will be required of students.  Packages are available for pick up during regular business hours.  For priority processing, the student financial aid file should be completed by JUNE 1, 1999 (MARCH 1st to enroll in the Summer 1999 term).

 Summer 1999 Financial Aid Application

The Summer Financial Aid Application to request and receive financial aid for the Summer 1999 term is available in the Office of Financial Aid.  In order to have financial aid processed, you must have a complete 1999-2000 file with the Office of Financial Aid that includes, but is not limited to, a Student Aid Report and Stafford or alternative loan application.  You must register for at least three credit hours to get financial aid (six credit hours for the Stafford loan).

If you intend to study abroad for the Summer 1999 term, you will have to complete an additional form.  In studying abroad, you may also want to consider having a power of attorney to act on your behalf with our office in your absence.  Both the Study Abroad Financial Aid Request forms and Power of Attorney forms are available in our office.

The Student Aid Report, loan applications and other associated Summer financial aid forms must be submitted by MARCH 1, 1999 for priority processing.
