Attention all students!

Update contact information with Dept of Education

The Department of Education will soon be sending information about filing your 2005-2006 Renewal FAFSA. To ensure that you receive this information, please verify that the Department of Education has your correct contact information.

Students can update their email addresses, physical mailing addresses, and other contact information by visiting the FAFSA on the Web site at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Contact information can be viewed via the Student Access section of the site and updated via the Corrections section of the site.

Attention December Graduates!

Required Exit Counseling

All December graduates who received Federal Stafford loans while attending IIT-Downtown Campus must attend the following Exit Counseling session:

November 16, 2004 -- 12:00 to 1:30pm (Lunch will be provided)

This session will provide students with important information about loan repayment and federal loan consolidation.

Financial Aid Deadline for Fall Term

Students who would like to receive financial aid for the Fall term only must submit all documentation to complete their file by the following dates:

Law Students: December 13, 2004

Business Students: November 15, 2004

REFUND CHECKS

Refund checks are generated by the Bursar's Office and are available to be picked up at their office approximately 5-7 business days after a credit has resulted in a student's account.

The Bursar's Office will send the student an email when a refund check is available.

2004-2005 Loan Processing

FAFSA:

In order to qualify for financial aid for 2004-2005, you must complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA for 2004-2005.

You can complete your FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . In order to apply, you will need your Personal Identification Number (PIN). The Illinois Institute of Technology Downtown Campus(school code - E00773) requested that a PIN be mailed to your address from the Department of Education. You should have received it by now. Please keep your PIN protected. All MBA, MPA, CLFM and Law students should use school code E00773 with the school name Chicago Kent College of Law.

If you did not receive your PIN, you can request it online at www.pin.ed.gov. If you any have question or require further assistance please feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office at (312) 906-5180 or via email at finaid@kentlaw.edu or finaid@stuart.iit.edu

Federal Stafford loans

New students who have been awarded federal Stafford loans will need to select a lender and complete a Master Promissory Note online at the lender's website, which can be accessed here.

Continuing students who have received a federal Stafford loan in the past will not need to complete another Master Promissory Note unless the student wishes to use a new lender. The Office of Financial Aid will process a federal Stafford loan for the maximum amount the student has been awarded unless the student informs us otherwise.

Private loans

New and continuing students who wish to borrow a private loan will need to select a lender and complete a loan application at the lender's website, which can be accessed here.

Perkins loans

New and continuing students who have been awarded a Perkins loan will receive a promissory note from IIT's Student Loan office. The student must complete and return the promissory note in order for the loan funds to be credited to their account.

NEW STAFFORD LOAN RATES

As of July 1, 2004 the interest rates for federal Stafford loans are:

2.77% During school, grace and deferment

3.37% During active repayment (including forbearance

Tax Benefits for Higher Education

Did you know that there are U.S. tax breaks if you plan to go to college?  Go to the following website to learn about tax breaks for those either planning to go to college, already in school, or for people who have graduated and are paying back loans on their education:  www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/
