Lexis and Westlaw Printers
Free Lexis and Westlaw printing is available to students using the Lexis
and Westlaw printers. Directions for using the printers are available
in the computer labs and at the Service Desk. Staff and faculty should
still print to the Document Center.
To use the printers, use the print feature in Lexis or Westlaw. Do not use the print feature in your browser.
Printing using the
browser's feature will charge the job to your Chicago-Kent account.
Check the Lexis and Westlaw entries in the Record for further details
and updates on the free printing.
Exam Database
A database of old exams (mostly from between 1990 and Spring 2000) which
professors have released for review by students is available on the Web at http://exams.digitallib.kentlaw.edu/.
You will need your network login name and password to access the exam files.
Once in the database, you can use pull-down menus to search for exams by
Instructor name, Course name, Term, and/or Year.
The exams are displayed as PDF files, so you if you have not done so you will
need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader (available for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html)
to read the files.
Resource of the Week
American
Society of International Law Research Guide. Includes research
tips for finding foreign and international law materials, as well as links to
foreign and international law resources.
Library Tutorial: Federal Court Rules
In
this week's Library tutorial, we will show you where to find and how to use
federal court rules. You can find the tutorial schedule posted in the entry way
of the Library. There is no need to sign up to attend; just come to the
Reference Desk at the scheduled time. Tutorials are taught by Reference
Librarians and last approximately 20 minutes. If you have questions or suggestions regarding tutorials please send
an E-mail to: Joe Mitzenmacher (JMITZENM).
Library Suggestion Box Now Available
A new suggestion box will be available in the Library by the time you read
this.
The box is mounted to the wall on your right as you enter the Library on the
9th floor. All suggestions, comments, and complaints will be answered as soon as
possible, usually within 24 hours of receipt. Both suggestions and replies will
be posted on a bulletin board to the left of the box. The bulletin board
is on order but should be received soon.
You are not limited to the suggestion box! Please send me an E-mail to:
Keith Stiverson (KSTIVERS), give me a
call (x65610), or come to see me in room 871 if there is anything you want to
discuss about the Library or its services.
Keith Ann Stiverson, Library Director
Interlibrary Loan Policy
Interlibrary Loan is available to all Downtown Campus students. This
service can be used to borrow a book that is not owned by the Downtown
Campus Libraries or a copy of an article not available in the library.
Once you are certain the library does not own an item and that it cannot
be obtained through one of the online databases maintained by the library,
send an email to illreq@kentlaw.edu
to
request a loan of the book. The library's directory of online resources,
including the catalog, is at infoctr.edu.
Please note that ILL requests commonly require one to two weeks to fill.
Consideration for Others in the Library
Please try to maintain a quiet atmosphere in the Library for the benefit
of all those who are studying around you. If you need to work in
a group, study rooms are available. You may use any unreserved study
room, or make a reservation at the Service Desk
with your current ID.
Study Room Policy
Study rooms are for group study by IIT students using the Downtown Campus
Libraries' resources. You may reserve a room in advance at the Service
Desk with your current ID.
Library Cell Phone Policy
Before entering the Library, cell phones must be turned off. In addition,
you must leave the Library before using your cell phone. We have been inundated
with complaints about the disturbances caused by cell phone usage in the
Library, which has forced us to adopt this policy.
For those of you with an emergency situation who must be reachable by
cell phone, you can leave your phone on ONLY if it gets your attention
by some method other than ringing. If you have one that vibrates quietly
or uses a blinking light, you can leave it on while you are in the
Library. This exception does not change the requirement that you leave the Library
to use your phone.
Library Food and Drink Policy
1) Drinks are permitted, except in the computer labs, if they are
in a reusable hard plastic or metal container with a permanent lid that
does not have to be removed to drink. Water is allowed in a standard
water bottle with a securable cap.
Not allowed are: cans, styrofoam or paper cups, soft drinks or juice in bottles.
2) Food is not permitted in the Library.
3) No food or drinks of any kind are allowed in the computer labs.
Please Guard Your Valuables
Personal belongings, such as laptops, wallets, purses, briefcases, cell
phones and Palmtops should be carried with you any time you leave your
study area. If they are left unattended, staff may take them to the
security desk. |
