Featured Resource
The National Center for
State Courts. The National Center for State Courts is
a clearinghouse of information on state courts. Most notable are
the annual caseload statistics, from each state's court of last resort
down to trial courts of limited jurisdiction. Also helpful are links
to state court websites, and standardized, elaborate diagrams of
the structure of each state's court system.
New E-mail Terminals
The next time you are in the Library and need to do a quick check of
your e-mail, you can use one of the Library's four new e-mail terminals.
The terminals are located across from the Service Desk, in front of the
book sale and career services collection, and will allow access to any
Web-based e-mail service, including your Kentlaw account via Webmail.
If you have any questions on using the terminals, please feel free to
ask a Reference Librarian.
JFK Display
The Library has set up a display at the Service desk in commemoration
of the upcoming 40thanniversary of John F. Kennedy's death. In addition
to several books on John F. Kennedy from our collection, we have also
made available a copy of the 40th Anniversary reprint of Life magazine's
John F. Kennedy Memorial Edition, which includes photos and texts of
many of his famous speeches.
Library Suggestion Box
A suggestion box is available in the Library.
The box is mounted to the wall on your right as you enter the Library
on the 9th floor. All suggestions, comments, and complaints will be answered
as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours of receipt. Both suggestions
and replies will be posted on a bulletin board to the left of the box.
You are not limited to the suggestion box! Please send me an E-mail
to: Keith Stiverson (KSTIVERS),
give me a call (x65610), or come to see me in room 871 if there is anything
you want to discuss about the Library or its services.
Keith Ann Stiverson, Library Director
Consideration for Others in the Library
Please try to maintain a quiet atmosphere in the
Library for the benefit of all those who are studying around you. If
you need to work in a group, study rooms are available. You may use any
unreserved study room, or make a reservation at the Service Desk with
your current ID.
Study Room Policy
Study rooms are for group study by IIT students
using the Downtown Campus Library's resources. You may reserve a room
in advance at the Service Desk with your current ID.
Library Cell Phone Policy
Before entering the Library, cell phones must
be turned off. In addition, you must leave the Library before using your
cell phone. We have been inundated with complaints about the disturbances
caused by cell phone usage in the Library, which has forced us to adopt
this policy.
For those of you with an emergency situation who must be reachable by
cell phone, you can leave your phone on ONLY if it gets your attention
by some method other than ringing. If you have one that vibrates quietly
or uses a blinking light, you can leave it on while you are in the Library.
This exception does not change the requirement that you leave the Library
to use your phone.
Library Food and Drink Policy
1) Drinks are permitted, except in the computer
labs, if they are in a reusable hard plastic or metal container with
a permanent lid that does not have to be removed to drink. Water is allowed
in a standard water bottle with a securable cap.
Not allowed are: cans, styrofoam or paper cups, soft drinks or juice
in bottles.
2) Food is not permitted in the Library.
3) No food or drinks of any kind are allowed in the computer labs.
Please Guard Your Valuables
Personal belongings must be carried with you
each time you leave your study area. Theft of wallets is a recurring
problem. If your belongings are discovered unattended, security personnel
may remove them to a safer location. |
