Meeting for students interested in becoming more involved with Operation Kosovo

The Global Law and Policy Initiative will hold a meeting on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at 3:00 PM in Room 305.  The purpose of the meeting is to familiarize students with opportunities to become involved with Chicago-Kentís international activities

There are several ways for students to get involved this semester:

1. Creating Kosovo police force and judiciary training materials

  •  Help convert Chicago police training materials into electronic format.
  • Work directly with Chicago police officers to develop training presentations on the following topics:

  • a. team-building and problem-solving techniques
    b. managing internal diversity
    c. police ethics and integrity
    d. integrating  community policing philosophy and concepts  (i.e. CAPS)
    e. developing government and legal institution relations
    f. human diversity training
    g. police discretion that outlines how every action taken by a police officer is governed by law or discretion
  • Create PowerPoint presentations to explain training material.

2. Creating a manual for handling international asylum cases

The Global Law and Policy Initiative is working with the Chicago Center for Refugee Law to create a manual of resources for handling international asylum cases.  Student assistance is needed in two areas:

  • Research to locate cases, statutes, and treaties supporting each section of the manual.
  • Creation of a website introducing the Immigration and Naturalization Act (INA).

Please come to this meeting to find out more about these projects, or to get involved.  If you would like to attend but are unable, or would like more information, please contact Lynn Lee (, or Randy Clarke (
