Patent Bar Exam

A J.D. is not required to sit for the patent bar exam. If you take the patent bar exam before you finish law school, you will be a patent agent. Once you finish law school and pass the state bar exam, you can transfer your registration and become a patent attorney. However, there are certain eligibility requirements that you must meet to take the exam.

Detailed information about the exam, including registration information, past exams, and exam results, is available from the Office of Enrollment and Discipline for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
