The Giles Sutherland Rich IP Moot Court competition is one of the most prestigious competitions available to Chicago-Kent students.  Although the problem generally involves patent issues, students are not required to have taken patent law prior to competing, however, students must have completed Legal Writing II.  Other rules may apply to students wishing to compete, so please refer to the Chicago-Kent Student Handbook for all applicable requirements.

Copies of the problem are available from Andrew Dallmann in room C70.  Students who wish to compete can register for the competition during the upcoming Spring course registration.  The competition counts as 1 credit on a pass/fail basis.  For students enrolled in the IP Certificate program, this credit does count towards the IP Certificate.

Students who compete in the competition must submit a brief to Andrew Dallmann by 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2000.  All students must compete in an intramural competition held at the school on Saturday, January 22.  Students must argue both on and off-brief.  Up to four students may advance to the Midwest Regional competition in Chicago on March 17-20.  Students who advance from the Regional competition will compete in the National Finals held in Washington, D.C. on April 12-14, 2000.  Last year, Chicago-Kent students Brad Bertoglio and Eric Baude placed first in the Regional competition and advanced to the Semi-finals in Washington.  Jason Shull and Peter Siavelis placed third in the Regional competition.

If you have any questions about the competition, please send an e-mail to Andrew Dallmann (adallman@kentnet).
