Class of 2008
Daniel Attaway is a third year student at Chicago-Kent. Daniel received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and English from Rice University in Houston, TX. Before attending law school, Daniel worked as a process and production engineer for Lyondell Chemical Co. (now Lyondell Bassell) in Texas and Illinois.
During his first year, Daniel externed for the Honorable Ronald Guzman in the Northern District of Illinois. Last summer, he split his time between Howrey, LLC in Houston, TX and Connolly, Bove, Lodge & Hutz LLP in Wilmington, DE. After graduation, Daniel will become a patent litigation associate at Connolly, Bove, Lodge & Hutz.
Jessica Fender is a third year student at Chicago-Kent. She received both her B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle. Jesse is also a registered patent agent.
Last summer, she worked at Schiff Hardin LLP. This year, Jesse served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Chicago-Kent Law Review. After graduation, Jesse is moving to Washington, D.C. to clerk for Judge Sharon Prost at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Duan Fu is in her third year of law school. Duan attended Zhejiang University in China where she received her B.E. in Telecommunication Engineering.
In fall 2006, Duan worked as a legal extern for Mr. Jim Bailey at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. She externed for Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan and Judge Blanche Manning at the Northern District of Illinois in spring and fall of 2007.
Last summer, Duan worked as a summer associate in the IP Department at Jenner & Block’s Chicago office, where she has also accepted full-time employment to begin in fall 2008. She chose Jenner because of the firm’s strength in the IP practice and its collegial atmosphere.
Trevor Joike is a third year student at Chicago-Kent and will graduate in December of 2008. Trevor received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Masters in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Before attending law school, Trevor worked as an accountant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP and Best Buy, Co. in Minnesota.
During his second year, Trevor externed at the United States Patent & Trademark Office in the computer database art unit. Trevor also externed for Justice Margaret O’Mara Frossard of the Illinois Appellate Court, 1st District last fall. This summer, Trevor will be working at Howrey, LLC in East Palo Alto, CA as a summer intern in the litigation area.
In March 2009, Trevor accepted a full-time position at Howrey, LLC.
Nicole Little is in her last year of law school. Nikki received her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
After her first year of law school, Nikki externed at the Michigan State Court of Appeals in Lansing, Michigan. Following her second year, she worked at Sughrue Mion in Washington, DC. Nikki has accepted a full-time position with Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery in Chicago after graduation.
Puneet Sarna is in his last year of law school. Puneet received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology. After graduating from IIT, he worked as a software engineer for established technology companies such as Motorola and Luxxon Corporation. Prior to attending Chicago-Kent, Puneet was a business advisor for a small business in New York
Last summer, Puneet was a summer associate at Fenwick & West LLP and has accepted a full-time position with them after graduation.
Emer Simic is in her final year of law school. Emer holds a B.A. in Natural Sciences and a M.Phil in History and Philosophy of Science from Cambridge University, England. She also is an Irish Barrister (Attorney) and has a Barrister-at-Law degree from the Honorable Society of Kings Inns, Dublin Ireland.
Emer clerked for Judge Bill Taylor, Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division in summer 2007. Currently, she is a law clerk at Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd. and has accepted a position with them after graduation. Emer is a patent agent and she intends to specialize in patent law.
David Simon is completing his final semester of law school. David graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan in three years where he majored in Political Science and minored in Philosophy. During his final year at Michigan, he worked as a researcher for the Center for Advanced Defense Studies in Washington, DC. During law school, David externed for Judges David Erickson and Rodolfo Garcia at the Illinois Appellate Court, as well as Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan at the Northern District of Illinois. Last summer he worked as summer associate in the Chicago office of Brinks, Hofer, Gilson & Lione.
In the fall, David will clerk for Judge Martin C. Ashman at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Nguyen (Wynn) Vo is a third year student at Chicago-Kent. Wynn received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to law school, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Henneman Engineering and then later as a project engineer at Grumman Butkus. Wynn is also a registered patent agent.
Last summer, Wynn was a summer associate at Welsh & Katz, Ltd. and has accepted a full-time position with them after graduation. At Welsh & Katz, Wynn is involved in patent prosecution and litigation matters in all forms of intellectual property.
Class of 2009
Angela Davis is a 2L student at Chicago-Kent. Angela received her undergraduate degree in English from the College of New Jersey. Prior to attending Chicago-Kent, Angela was a paralegal in the research department of the Illinois Second District Appellate Court and then at General Electric Consumer Finance.
Last summer, Angela was a judicial extern for Chief Judge Janet Holmgren in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court in Rockford, Illinois. Currently, Angela provides research assistance to Professor Dinwoodie and works as a consultant in General Electric’s legal department. This summer, she will be a summer associate at Jenner & Block.
Jonathan Goodman is a second year student at Chicago-Kent and is a registered patent agent. Prior to entering law school, Jonathan received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Delaware and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana. Following his graduate work, he researched organometallic polymerization catalysts at M.I.T and nanomaterials as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University.
Last summer, Jonathan was a summer associate at Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP. At MGB, he used his research and scientific expertise to help clients protect their intellectual property. Specifically, he prosecuted patents, supported litigation, and assisted licensing. Jonathan continued these activities through the school year and represented Chicago-Kent as part of the Intellectual Property Moot Court Team. This summer, Jonathan is returning to MGB to continue assisting clients protect their intellectual property rights.
David Gosse is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. David has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. Prior to starting law school, David worked for five years as a consulting engineer and project manager at DMC Inc., a Chicago company with expertise in a variety of automated systems.
Last summer, David worked as a research assistant for Professor Holbrook. He also became a registered patent agent after passing the USPTO registration exam. David represented Chicago-Kent this spring by arguing several patent issues at the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition. David will work this summer at Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery, a Chicago intellectual property firm.
John Gunderson is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. John graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University in Omaha, NE with a major in Psychology and a minor in History.
Last summer, John was a judicial extern for Judge Allen S. Goldberg in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division. This summer, John will work as a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
Ryan Jungels is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. Ryan received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with high honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2006.
In the summer of 2007, Ryan was a summer associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy. Ryan will be returning to McAndrews as a summer associate for the summer of 2008.
Zakia Khan is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. Zakia received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. One highlight of Zakia’s graduate studies was 10 months she spent studying and working in Singapore. Before attending law school, Zakia worked as an engineer for Tekion, Inc., a fuel cell startup company in Champaign, Illinois.
Currently, Zakia is working as a law clerk at Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery. She is looking forward to the summer when she will split her time between Foley & Lardner and Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery.
Randy Micheletti is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. Randy obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. He then received an M.S. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. Before attending law school, Randy worked as a museum educator at Carnegie Science Center and as a product manager for Fisher Scientific International (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), both located in Pittsburgh, PA.
Randy has been a registered patent agent since 2003. This year he will be a summer associate in the Intellectual Property Group at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP in Chicago.
Matthew Minder is a second year law student at Chicago-Kent. Matt received his B.A. from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, with a Major in Music Business and a Minor in Marketing. Prior to law school, Matt worked in music promotion, obtaining airplay for artists on both major and independent record labels, at radio stations across the United States.
Since last summer, Matt has worked as a Law Clerk at Pavalon, Gifford & Laatsch in Chicago. He currently serves as a Staff Writer on the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and next year will serve as a Notes and Comments Editor. In summer 2008, Matt will work as a Summer Associate at Bryan Cave LLP in St. Louis, Missouri.
Manan Shah is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. Manan received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a Minor in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduating from college, he worked as an Electronics Engineer for the Department of Defense, and later as a Systems Engineer for the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, both located in Los Angeles, CA.
Last summer, Manan was an extern for various judges at the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Waukegan, IL. He is currently clerking at the patent firm of Niro, Scavone, Haller, & Niro, and has accepted a position with them for this summer. At Niro, Manan is involved in patent and trademark litigation.
Brett Smith is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. Brett received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 2006. He is also a registered patent agent and a member of our Moot Court Honor Society.
Last summer, Brett worked as a law clerk at Alter and Preece. He is currently externing at Seyfarth Shaw in their Intellectual Property Practice Group. His work encompasses various aspects of intellectual property, including patent prosecution and litigation matters. This summer, Brett will work as a summer associate at Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery.
Viren Soni is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2001.
Prior to entering law school, Viren worked in consulting and business development with AT&T and Integrated Software Specialists. He also worked for the USPTO as a Patent Examiner. He also has experience in patent searching and responding to patent applications. This summer, Viren will work as a summer associate at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP in their Intellectual Property Group.
Ansonia Sood is a 2L student at Chicago-Kent. Ansonia received a duel Bachelor's degree in Biology and Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Prior to attending law school, Ansonia worked at Accenture in their Communications and High Technology consulting practice.
Currently, Ansonia is externing at Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in their patent law group. At Wrigley, Ansonia is preparing Freedom to Operate Opinions and responding to Patent Office Actions. She is also working with Wrigley inventors and attorneys to prepare patent applications. In the summer of 2008, Ansonia will be working in the Boston area as a summer associate at the intellectual property firm Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds.
Jessica Tyrus is a second year student at Chicago-Kent. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, in 2006. She is a Notes and Comments Editor for the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and she is also a member of Chicago-Kent’s Moot Court Honor Society.
Last summer, Jessica worked as a summer associate at Leydig, Voit & Mayer in Chicago. She will return to work there during the summer of 2008.
Tianran Yan is a second-year student at Chicago-Kent. He received his B.S. in Biotechnology from Sun Yat-Sen University in China. Afterwards, he spent two years doing research on protein structure in University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center and received a M.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics.
Last Summer, Tianran worked as a law clerk at Dickinson Wright PLLC in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He is a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and is currently externing for Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez in the Northern District of Illinois. This summer, he will work as a summer associate at Foley & Lardner LLP in Chicago.
Class of 2010
Daniel Chavka is a 1L student at Chicago-Kent. Dan graduated with honors from the University of Illinois-Champaign with a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in English. Prior to law school, Dan interned at Caterpillar, Inc. as a machine development engineer. Dan is also a registered patent agent.
This summer, Dan will work as an intern at Patents+TMS. He will work mainly on patent prosecution matters and drafting patent applications.
