Intellectual Property Alumni Spotlight

Scott Kolassa is a 2004 graduate of Chicago-Kent, with a certificate in Intellectual Property. While in law school, Scott served as president of the Intellectual Property Law Society for two terms, and received CALI awards for obtaining the highest grade in six classes: Trademarks and Unfair Competition, Advanced Research in Intellectual Property, Genetics and the Law, Practice Before the Federal Circuit, International Patent Law, and Remedies. He was also a Chicago Intellectual Property Colloquium Fellow.
Scott is an associate in the New York Office of King & Spalding, where he focuses on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on patent litigation. Prior to joining King & Spalding, Scott was an associate at Goodwin Proctor. He is admitted to practice in front of the United States Patent Office, as well as the New York State Bar.
Scott earned a B.S in Electrical Engineering in 1996 from the University of Michigan. Prior to starting law school, Mr. Kolassa spent nearly one year designing software for a telecommunications company and four and a half years designing automotive safety electronics and software. He is a named inventor on five patents relating to automotive safety electronics.
