Class of 2009
Zakia Khan
Zakia Khan is a third year law student at Chicago-Kent. Zakia received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. One highlight of Zakia’s graduate studies was the 10 months she spent studying and working in Singapore. Before attending law school, Zakia worked as an engineer for Tekion, Inc., a fuel cell startup company in Champaign, Illinois.
During law school, Zakia has been involved with the Intellectual Property Law Society at Chicago-Kent. Last semester, she served as the President of this student organization.
Last summer, Zakia split her time between Foley & Lardner LLP and Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery. After graduation, she is looking forward to joining Foley & Lardner LLP in Chicago.
Kristina Kirby
Kristina Kirby is a third year student at Chicago-Kent. Kristina received her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Before attending law school, Kristina worked as an applications engineer for MKS Instruments in Austin, Texas.
Throughout law school, Kristina served as the law student liaison to the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law. During her first summer, Kristina attended the China Summer Intellectual Property Institute at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China where she studied Chinese intellectual property law. Last summer, she worked as a Summer Associate for Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago, IL. In addition, in the fall of 2008, she completed an intellectual property externship with Seyfarth Shaw LLP in Chicago, IL. After graduation, Kristina will join Kirkland & Ellis LLP as a patent litigation associate.
Class of 2011
Michael Brandt
Michael Brandt is a first year student at Chicago-Kent. In 2006, he graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied General Engineering and minored in Spanish.
Prior to attending law school, Michael worked as a patent examiner at the United States Patent & Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. While there, he examined patent applications in various electrical arts, focusing primarily on electromechanical subject matter. After his first year, Michael will be a summer associate with Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd. in Chicago.
