Excited? Nervous? Confused? A bit of each? The beginning
of law school can be an exciting (and scary) time. If you
are experiencing any of these feelings or have a question
for which you just can't find the answer, stop by the Office
of Student Services. As the Director of Student Services,
I meet with students for a variety of reasons, including
academic and personal guidance, disability accommodations,
administrative concerns, and just general questions. You
don't need to make an appointment, just stop by the office,
room 310A, email me at email@example.com,
or call (312)906-5247.
Also, be sure to check out the Student
Services Website. The site contains a great deal of
information and resources to help you in law school.
New Location for the Office of Student
The Office of Student Services is now located
in room 310A, towards the front of the Alumnae/i Affairs
& Development Suite. Please stop by if you need information
or have any questions.

Important Health Insurance Announcements
Student Health Insurance
IIT has selected Chickering as the provider of the student
health insurance plan. The cost for an individual student
to have insurance from August 15, 2005 - August 14, 2006
will be $885. All new students should have received health
insurance information earlier this summer, but continuing
students may not have gotten it yet. If you have not received
a plan brochure in the mail yet, you can visit http://www.chickering.com/stu_conn/student_connection.aspx?group_number=724532
to see the 2005-06 Brochure.
Enrolling in Health Insurance
All students registered for at least 12 credit hours are
automatically enrolled in and billed for student health
insurance. This applies to both Day and Evening Division
students. All full-time and part-time J-1 and F-1 international
students are automatically enrolled in student health insurance.
Intensive Trial Advocacy: If you are enrolled in
either the August or January sessions of Intensive Trial
Advocacy, those credits are added to your fall semester
hours. If enrolling in Intensive Trial Advocacy gives you
12 or more credit hours for the fall semester, then you
be billed for student health insurance. Incompletes:
If you are planning on making up Incompletes during the
semester, those credits will not count in your credit hours
for determining whether you will be automatically enrolled
in the health insurance plan.
Students registered for fewer than 12 credit hours, whether
in the Day or Evening Division, are not automatically enrolled
in the Student Health Insurance Plan. These students can
elect to obtain coverage by submitting an enrollment form
by September 2, 2005. Enrollment requests
can be submitted online at http://www.enrollment.iit.edu/ssc/insurance/enrollment_form.html.
The Chickering Group does not accept applications for enrollment
Getting Enrollments Processed Early
If you want to receive your insurance card earlier or, for
continuing students, if you want to avoid an apparent gap
in coverage, please contact Melody Jack at email@example.com
by August 22, 2005. Please include your
student ID number in your email to Ms. Jack. Chicago-Kent
recommends that all automatically enrolled students and
those who elect coverage submit an email to Ms. Jack to
help facilitate getting their insurance cards earlier. (Students
who have already contacted Ms. Jack have had their enrollments
submitted to Chickering.) If students do not contact Ms.
Jack by August 22, their enrollments will go through standard
processing and they will receive insurance cards by the
middle of October.
Waiving Health Insurance
Domestic students may waive health insurance coverage if
the student presents evidence of other health insurance
coverage under a plan that provides benefits equal to or
greater than the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students
must present evidence of coverage and complete a waiver
form by September 2, 2005. Waiver forms
are available at http://www.enrollment.iit.edu/ssc/insurance/waiver_form.html.
If you have waived student health insurance in a prior
semester, you do not need to submit another waiver. Once
you have successfully waived health insurance, you are considered
waived for your time at Chicago-Kent unless you elect coverage.
To ensure all international students meet the Federal Visa
Insurance Requirements, coverage is mandatory for all full-time
and part-time J-1 and F-1 international students. Waivers
will only be granted to those international students who
have health insurance coverage through a US-based employer;
who have health insurance coverage through their home country
embassy; or for J-1 students whose DS-2019 was issued by
an outside agency (e.g., Fulbright) and can show proof of
insurance through their sponsoring agency.
New Online Tool
All students in enrolled in the Student Health Insurance
Plan will have access Navigator, Chickering’s new online
tool. Insured students can view claims activity, request
ID cards, research prescription drug prices, find Preferred
Providers, and access wellness information. You can find
the Navigator at http://www.chickering.com/stu_conn/student_connection.aspx?group_number=724532.
Dental Discount Program
In addition to the Student Health Insurance Plan, students
will have the option of purchasing an option dental discount
program, Vital Savings. The cost of Vital Savings is $25.
Program details and enrollment information can be found
Dependent enrollment is managed directly by Chickering.
You can find information and the required forms at http://www.chickering.com/stu_conn/student_connection.aspx?group_number=724532
by selecting “Enrollment Forms.” Unlike Student Health Insurance,
the premiums for dependent coverage are not added to your
tuition bill and must be paid directly to Chickering.
