Important Building Emergency Information
A message from Kevin Gallagher, Chief Engineer
The wall switches throughout the building marked “Heat Emergency Off” are intended for emergency use only. They were installed for safety reasons. If smoke is detected coming from the ceiling, the switches can be flipped to the off position (down) to prevent the spread of a fire. When a switch is flipped to the off position, electrical power to the heating/cooling unit in the ceiling is turned off. This results in the elimination of the flow of all ventilation air (both heating and cooling) to the adjacent space. In the unlikely event of an emergency situation that requires a wall switch to be turned off, please call DTC Security immediately at 906-5030. Building maintenance will be dispatched by radio to investigate the problem.

The “Heat Emergency Off” wall switches do not regulate space temperature and should always be left on (unless shut off in an emergency as described in the paragraph above). In the event of a space temperature concern, please email buildingmaintenance@kentlaw.edu to report the problem. Please be sure to clearly describe the location and conditions. Building maintenance staff will adjust the temperature by changing the set point or make the necessary repair.

2L Evening Student Volunteers Needed
We are looking for 2L evening students who are interested in assisting with fire evacuation procedures in the evenings. We will provide training for volunteers so you feel confident in directing your classmates in case of an emergency. The time commitment is minimal, and your help will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested, please contact either Jamie Lake or Caroline Cascino.
