Pleading for the Future

See the theatrical stage production, Pleading for the Future, at Chicago-Kent. Chicago-Kent's own adjunct Professor Todd Parkhurst plays Clarence Darrow, one of Chicago's most renowned lawyers. In 1924, Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two wealthy Chicago 18-year-olds, killed 11-year-old Bobby Franks, just for the experience of doing so. At the time, this case was far more legendary than the O.J. Simpson case. Darrow argued the case for two days and obtained life sentences for the boys, avoiding the state's strenuous efforts to hang them. The argument is among the most famous in legal history. Professor Parkhurst will deliver a condensed, 25-minute version of Darrow's closing argument and summation. The show includes an actual detective, a corpse, the defendants, an actual state's attorney (played by Scott W. Petersen '72), a court clerk, an assistant detective (played by Naser Baseer '03), and a newspaper reporter (played by adjunct Professor Bill Hannay). The show also includes a PowerPoint presentation of crime scene photographs and music from the 1920's.

CTA Three-Track Slowdown

Starting April 2, 2007, the Red, Brown, and Purple lines will run on three tracks instead of four. Fewer trains will be able to run during the a.m. and p.m. rush periods due to the reduction of tracks and commuting times may double.  The most significant slowdowns will occur on northbound service from 3p.m. to 6:30p.m., but there will also be a slowdown during the morning rush from 6a.m. to 9:30a.m. The CTA recommends that you consider alternate service, such as CTA buses, as there are numerous bus routes that serve the affected corridor. For further information, please read the FAQ on Three-Track Service. The Metra Union Pacific North line and the BNSF line will have additional trains stopping at stations in the city during the morning and evening rush.
