Welcome New Students!

The Office of Student Services (located on the north side of the third floor in Suite 310) can help you with a wide range of issues, including academic counseling (e.g., helping with course selection after your first year, assisting with studying, outlining, and exam-taking skills, and information about academic programs and regulations); accommodations available to students with disabilities; information about the CTA’s U-Pass program (which provides passes to all full-time students for unlimited rides on CTA trains and busses); questions about student health insurance; information about health and counseling resources available on Main Campus (many of which are available free of charge to students); and information about the Academic Support Program.

Student Health Insurance Information

Student Health Insurance. For information about the 2009-2010 student health insurance plan, please see the Student Services section of this week's Record, and the Student Health Insurance FAQ.

Click here to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Program. Click here is you need to waive the Student Health Insurance. Please note that in order to waive the insurance, you must provide current Health Insurance Information. The Deadline to enroll or waive the student health insurance through IIT is September 1, 2009.

Academic Support Program

You will receive information during Orientation about the Academic Support Program (ASP), which is designed to assist first-year students in developing the skills needed to succeed in law school. One component of the program is weekly small group sessions focusing on skills development in the context of each of your Fall doctrinal courses. We will be sending invitations to selected students before the start of the regular semester to join these sessions. If you do not receive an invitation and would like to petition to join them, click here for the petition form, which is due to me no later than Tuesday, September 1. Information about the program and study resources is available on the ASP web site.

Academic Resource Library

The Office of Student Services maintains a small resource library of study aids and other materials for first year classes, including Civil Procedure, Contracts, Criminal Law, Justice, Property, and Torts. Students can borrow materials for a three-day period. This is a great way to preview a study aid before you buy it or do a quick review for a class.

Student Business Cards

To order student business cards with the Chicago-Kent logo,Click here to complete the form.

  • All orders include 250 business cards.
  • Processing time is approximately 2-3 weeks.
  • You will receive an e-mail notification when your cards are ready to be picked up.
  • Payment is due when cards are picked up (cash or check).
  • Black/white cards are $15; Color (black/white/red) cards are $25.

CTA Upass Information

CTA U-Pass Program. Chicago-Kent is a participant in the Chicago Transit Authority's U-Pass program. The U-Pass is a discount fare card allowing unlimited rides on all CTA buses and trains. All full-time day students will receive a U-Pass card valid from August 24 (the first day of classes) through December 21 (the end of Fall exams). New cards will be issued at the start of the Spring semester. The charge for the card will appear on the semester bill for each full-time student. Due to restrictions imposed by the CTA, the program is not currently available to evening students or part-time day students. Replacement Upass Information

Lost or Stolen: If you lose your U-Pass or it is stolen, you need to go to CTAHeadquarters at 567 West Lake Street, 2nd Floor. Replacement cards cost $35.00 (cash, credit card, or money order only) and you will need to bring a valid Chicago-Kent student ID card. Replacement passes are sent to Chicago-Kent five to seven days after you apply. You will be notified by email once it arrives. Please note: CTA will replace lost or stolen U-Pass cards only one time per academic year.

On a Bus: If your U-Pass is captured in bus equipment, the bus operator will ask you to complete a customer service card and allow you to ride free. If needed, a free transfer will be provided. You must bring the customer service card, along with your valid Chicago-Kent student ID card, to CTA Headquarters at 567 West Lake Street, 2nd Floor to apply for a replacement. Replacement passes are sent to Chicago-Kent five to sevendays after you apply. You will be notified by email once it arrives. If you fail to get the customer service card, it can take up to two weeks to replace your U-Pass.

On the El: If your U-Pass is captured in rail station equipment, locate a customer assistant and inform him or her of your problem. The customer assistant will have you complete a fare discrepancy report (FDR) and issue you a free transit card valued at 3.60. You must bring a copy of the FDR, along with your valid Chicago-Kent student ID card, to CTA Headquarters at 567 West Lake Street, 2nd Floor to apply for a replacement. Replacement passes are sent to Chicago-Kent five to seven days after you apply. You will be notified by email once it arrives. If you fail to get the FDR, it can take up to two weeks to replace your U-Pass.

Additional Information

Counseling Services: IIT's Counseling Center will have a staff psychologist at the Law School on Mondays throughout the academic year. She will be available by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (312) 808-7132. There is no charge for these counseling services.
