The Expectation Measure of Damages

 

When a promisor breaches a legally enforceable promise, the court will in most cases require the promisor to compensate the promisee for the damage the breach causes by paying a certain amount of money. 

 

The fundamental goal of a court awarding contract damages is to put the promisee in as good a position as he or she would have been in had the promisor kept the promise.
