Introduction to Estates and Trusts

Estates and Trusts is essentially the study of what happens to an individual’s property when he dies.  Largely governed by the law of the state where the individual resides when he dies, the subject frequently involves a conflict between donative freedom and government restraints imposed upon it.  As you proceed through the separate tutorials, which we suggest you do in order, you should consider what specific policies are being advanced by statutes and cases restricting an individual’s ability to leave his property under particular conditions or to whomever he wants.
