This course is concerned primarily with the rights of creditors and debtors under the federal Bankruptcy Code, with particular emphasis on the fundamental concepts of bankruptcy law.

The casebook is Tabb & Brubaker, Bankruptcy Law (2d ed. 2006). You also will the 2008 Casebook Supplement, which is available for download on the web page for this course, as well as your own copy of the Bankruptcy Code. I have asked the bookstore to stock U.S. Bankruptcy Code & Rules Booklet (2009 ed.).

Assignments will be posted on the web page for this course: http://www.kentlaw.edu/faculty/sharris/classes/bankruptcySUM09. They are subject to change. Changes will be announced in class, by e-mail, or both.

To receive credit for the course, you must sign the seating chart no later than the end of class on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, attend class regularly, and pass the final examination. A student who is absent from more than three classes will not be permitted to take the final examination. You are responsible for keeping track of your attendance. I reserve the right to adjust your grade up or down, by as much as one level (e.g., from a B to a B+), to take into account class participation.
