Howard Smith

Chicago-Kent Honors Scholar
Class of 2010

Biographical Information:

Howard Smith graduated from the State University of N.Y at Buffalo with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  Howard was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps in September of 2001 and served on Active Duty until August of 2007.  Howard was deployed to Okinawa for 4 years, and spent one year in Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He continues to serve in the Naval Reserve.  Immediately following his first year of law school, Howard accepted a full time position with Anson Industries, a large specialty construction firm.  He works on interpreting, negotiating and drafting contracts with both owners and General Contractors.


In his spare time Howard enjoys kayaking and rowing on the Chicago River. He is a licensed private pilot.  Howard is extremely grateful for the opportunities the Honors Scholarship provides.
