The Institute for Law and the Workplace at Chicago-Kent College of Law presents its annual seminar for lawyers whose practice involves labor law, local government law or school law; state and local government and public education officials, administrators and labor relations officers; union officials; business agents and uniserv directors; and arbitrators and mediators. The program is co-sponsored by the Illinois Labor Relations Board and the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.

Keynote Speaker Laurence Msall
President, The Civic Federation

Laurence Msall is the President of the Civic Federation. Mr. Msall joined the 112-year-old tax policy and government research organization in January of 2002. The Civic Federation is an independent, non-partisan government research organization founded in 1894 whose membership includes business and professional leaders from a wide range of Chicago area corporations, professional service firms and institutions. Before joining the Civic Federation, Mr. Msall was the Senior Advisor for Economic Development for Illinois Governor George H. Ryan. Mr. Msall was responsible for the oversight of eleven of the state’s economic development and infrastructure-related agencies including the Departments of Commerce and Community Affairs, Revenue, Transportation, and the state’s housing and other development authorities. Appointed as Senior Advisor in February 1999, Mr. Msall worked closely with the Governor and his staff on issues related to business climate, tax and transportation policy. Before joining the Governor’s staff in 1999, Mr. Msall served as the Vice President of the Commercial Club of Chicago, a non-profit group of Chicago’s senior business and civic leaders. Prior to joining the Commercial Club staff in 1990, Laurence Msall served as Assistant to the Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs with primary responsibility for policy development. From 1984-1988 he represented the Department and Governor Thompson’s office on economic development and business issues before the Illinois General Assembly. Laurence Msall is a licensed attorney and 1992 graduate of Loyola University School of Law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Mr. Msall currently serves as a member of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s Blue Ribbon Commission on the future of public pensions in Illinois.

The conference will be held at Chicago-Kent College of Law, 565 W. Adams Street in Chicago.

Confirmation of Registration
A letter of confirmation will be mailed to the address given on your registration form.

Confirmation of Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided at registration.

Cancellations and Refunds
Written notification of cancellation is required. A full tuition refund is available if notification is received prior to November 3, 2006; 25% will be charged if notification is received between November 3 and November 24, 2006. No refunds will be granted after November 24, 2006.

MCLE Credit
This program is eligible for 5.5 hours of MCLE credit on a “60-minute” credit hour. The actual number of approved hours may vary from state to state.

Hotel Accommodations
Hotel accommodations have been made for the convenience of out-of-town guests at the Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro. The Crowne is a trendy newly renovated property located four blocks from the law school in the emerging “West Loop” neighborhood. The Crowne is also a union hotel. The room rate is $189 for single or double occupancy, plus 15.4% tax. Please make reservations directly with the hotel. Requests for accomodations cannot be asured if made after November 2, 2006.
