The Global Law and Policy Initiative (GLAPI) program is one of several efforts coordinated by the Office of International Law and Policy (OILP). For further information about other international programs and activities at Chicago-Kent, go to the OILP home page or contact Assistant Dean Edward Harris at 312-906-5012 or at eharris@kentlaw.edu.
The GLAPI is designed to bring together the Chicago-Kent faculty, the Chicago community, and Chicago-Kent students who have an active interest in broadening their involvement in international law. In recent decades a wide range of challenging new legal issues have emerged in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Asia, and other parts of the world. Since 1997, the Initiative has spearheaded programs designed to promote a better understanding of the evolving global environment and to strengthen democratic institutions wherever they may be found.
In addition, the Initiative provides a forum to promote the exchange of views and experiences among academics, policy makers and business leaders about critical issues of global policy. GLAPI-sponsored dialogues cover a wide range of topics including the rule of law, international policing, anti-corruption strategies, economic development, technology, and human rights.
Through their participation in new international ventures and projects, students at Chicago-Kent receive a unique global perspective. Students can get involved in educational programs, including conferences and seminars, lectures, moot court competitions, and international rule-of-law externships. Students can experience the spirit of this new era of global involvement through:
Internships
Research projects
Interprofessional projects
Externships
Exchange programs
The Office of International Law and Policy, and GLAPI-sponsored initiatives, seek to integrate law and policy on the global scale into the law school curriculum, giving students a better awareness and deeper practical understanding of how international legal norms and customs are evolving in response to the rapid economic globalization taking place throughout the world.
