Certificate in International Law and Practice
This new Certificate program is designed for practicing attorneys who want to update their skills or develop new expertise in international legal practice.
To earn the Certificate students will combine four core international courses and a "capstone experience. The four courses are: International Law, International Trade, International Business Transactions and Comparative Law or exemption from one or more of these courses and substitution of another international course as approved by the Certificate student's faculty advisor and the Assistant Dean for International Law.
The "capstone" experience will be for either 1 or 2 credits, under the supervision of a faculty advisor, and can include drafting the pleadings in an international case, or drafting documents for an international contract. This requirement can be met by taking an international seminar, or by working independently with a faculty advisor.
Certificate students will be charged the prevailing JD per credit hour price per course, and there will be an administrative fee of $75 charged at the time of application to the Certificate.
Students will have up to two academic years to complete the 14 credit hour requirement for the Certificate, with exceptions for extraordinary circumstances on petition by the student and approval by the Assistant Dean for International Law and the Dean of Students.
