The Certificate Program in International and Comparative Law requires students to complete 14 credit hours of study, of which 9 credits MUST be taken from three of the following four courses, and MUST BE TAKEN AT CHICAGO-KENT:
International Law
Comparative Law
International Trade
International Business Transactions
In addition to the 9 credits of core courses, to earn the certificate you MUST take an international seminar for 2 credits, leaving the remaining 3 credit hours to be earned by taking courses at Chicago-Kent or through study abroad programs. NOTE: in order to apply credits earned abroad to the Certificate you MUST get approval in advance from Dean Lazar.
International and Comparative law courses that can be taken to fulfill the requirements of the certificate include (but are not limited to) :
European Economic Community
International Human Rights Law
International Environmental Law
International Aspects of Intellectual Property Law
Students in the certificate program have priority for the Legal Writing IV course "International Business," however this course is NOT REQUIRED to earn the certificate and it DOES NOT REPLACE the seminar requirement. It can be used toward the certificate requirements.
