DePaul University College of Law Summer Program
The Human Rights Law in the Americas Summer Program provides
students with the opportunity to study international human
rights law in San José, Costa Rica. The Summer Program links
basic principles of international law with an overview of
the Inter-American Human Rights System and a special focus
on how human rights ideas, advocacy, and activist strategies
have transformed Latin American society and politics.
The Summer Program runs from June 20 - July 19, 2005 and
costs $3,700 which covers tuition and fees for 6 credits
of coursework room, board, local transportation, and additional
expenses. Students live with Costa Rican families and experience
local culture firsthand and may remain in the country after
the program ends to study Spanish or intern with a local
human rights organization.

Should American Courts Consider Foreign Court Decisions?
A filmed discussion between Justices Scalia and Breyer,
entitled “Constitutional Relevance of Foreign Court Decisions”
will be shown in the auditorium on Thursday March 3 at 6pm.
A discussion led by Professors Bart Brown and Sarah Harding
will follow the film, which has a running time of 1 hour
44 minutes. Starting at 5:30 pm, we will have pizza available

Interested in Semester Study Abroad at Bucerius Law School,
Hamburg Germany?
Chicago-Kent has a student exchange program with Germany’s
only private law school, called Bucerius Law School, located
in Hamburg Germany. This law school is very interesting
as it requires all its German students to study abroad and
it receives law students from all over the world each fall.
Ms. Birte Gall, who is the Director of the International
Exchange Program at Bucerius Law School, will be at Chicago-Kent
Monday February 21 at 12 noon in Room 583 to talk with anyone
who might be interested in studying at Bucerius. To download

WTI's Summer WTO Law Program in Berne, Switzerland
The World Trade Institute is (WTI) pleased to announce
that this July and August it will be hosting its annual
Summer Program on WTO Law and International Trade, in Berne,
Switzerland. The WTI's 2005 Summer Program provides an excellent
opportunity for individuals to gain in-depth and up-to-date
instruction from some of the world's leading academics and
practitioners in the field of International Trade Law and
Economics.

ABA International Internship Program
The American Bar Association Section of International Law and Prctice's Law Student
and New Lawyer Outreach Commitee is launching an international internship program. The
program offers students the opportunity to intern in a European Law firm. Click here

Attention: German-speaking 3Ls
There is a scholarship opportunity in Germany through the
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for an eight month
study/practical training visit. The program consists of
a two-month course in German legal terminology and introduction
to German Law, followed by six months of law courses concluding
with a legal internship. The scholarship includes tuition,
a monthly stipend, a travel subsidy and health insurance.
You must have earned your JD and must have passed the bar
exam. The deadline for applying is March 1, 2005 and you

Attention all F1 students who are completing their program
at the end of the Spring semester!
The International Center is holding workshops for students
who are interested in applying for Optional Practical Training
employment benefit after completion of study. Processing
of OPT may take 3-4 months by the Immigration Service, so
we encourage you to apply early.
At this workshop, you will learn about the procedures, ask
your questions, and may submit your application if you bring

Legal internship opportunities at the Overseas Private
Investment Corp (OPIC)
OPIC, an independent agency of the US government, serves
as the key federal agency for encouraging mutually beneficial
American business investment in the world's developing nations.
OPIC's goals are to improve American global competitiveness
internationally while creating American jobs. Beginning
in the summer of 2005, OPIC invites academically outstanding
students with a demonstrated interest in finance and international
law and development to spend a summer or academic semester
in Washington D.C. as law clerks for OPIC's Department of
Legal Affairs. An internship with OPIC's Department of Legal
Affairs will give students a comprehensive overview of the
operations and effectiveness of OPIC programs in support
of international transactions, project financing and political
risk evaluation from a legal perspective. Law student interns
help OPIC's attorneys advise OPIC in its operations and
can be assigned to a number of legal research and writing
projects. The application deadline for the summer 2005 internship
is February 28, 2005. For further information and application

Summer Study in Augsburg, Germany
Chicago-Kent has partnered with the University of Augsburg
(Germany) and four other law schools to offer a summer program
in Augsburg Germany. For summer 2005, the program will run
from June 13th through July 24th, and Chicago-Kent students
can earn ABA credits for such courses as Intro to European
Law, Intro to the European Legal System, German and American
Competition Law, Transnational Litigation, International

Note that while the website says there are no tuition fees,
Chicago-Kent students will be required to pay 50% of the
per credit hour charges associated with any credits they
wish to use toward their degrees. Thus, if you decide to
take 2 courses at Augsburg for 4 credits, you will have
to pay Chicago-Kent for 2 credits but will have 4 credits
toward your J.D. degree. In addition, students are responsible
for all expenses associated with the program – living, travel,
housing, books, etc. We can fill up to eight spots in this
program – if there are more than 8 students interested in
going, we will hold an essay contest to determine who will
be selected to participate.
