Chicago-Kent's "Introduction to the American Legal System" summer program
The summer program is well underway. In addition to their daily classes, this year’s summer program participants are enjoying a variety of interesting excursions to cultural and educational institutions in Chicago. Week One saw visits to Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the Lincoln Park Zoo, and the Board of Trade, as well as a chance to view the fireworks from Navy Pier and attend a screening of an important film and panel discussion about the establishment of the International Criminal Court. Over the weekend the group got the chance to do some power shopping at an outlet mall in Aurora and see a White Sox baseball game, and during Week Two the groups’ schedule includes visits to the Chicago History Museum, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Sears – oops, Willis – Tower and the courts at the Daley Center. Week Three field trips include the Museum of Science and Industry, the Shedd Aquarium, the Loyola University Museum of Art, a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank and a visit to an Administrative Court. We will start the fourth and final week of the program with an all day (Sunday) visit to Six Flags, a large amusement park, followed by a wonderful educational boat cruise on the Chicago River, a visit to the Field Museum and, as a culmination of the learning experience, participation as jurors in a mock trial.
