Outreach to Involved Groups: Biotechnology Meeting for
the American Farm Bureau
Part of ISLAT's uniqueness is the creative ways it showcases
law and science policy. In conjunction with the National
Center for Food Safety and Technology, ISLAT sponsored a dinner
for the board members of the American Farm Bureau Federation that
showcased the most advanced food processing technologies.
ISLAT treated food producers to the latest safe food processing
techniques, in part, to place producers in the role of consumers
of the high-tech processed foods. Dinner included specially
processed oysters, guacamole treated to prevent browning, irradiated
beef, and bovine growth hormone ice cream with fungicide-free
strawberries. National Center for Food Safety and Technology
director Charles Sizer and ISLAT Director Lori Andrews were the
keynote speakers, addressing agricultural genetics, high-tech
food processing, and consumer and legal responses to food safety
and quality issues.
