Visiting Lectures:  Science and the Creative Process

ISLAT is committed to sponsoring the visits of notable scholars to the campus.  On September 23, 1998. ISLAT sponsored a lecture by Nobel Laureate biochemist Dr. Kary Mullis, whose invention of the polymerase chain reaction revolutionized the study of DNA and genetics.  At a standing-room-only lecture, Mullis discussed his controversial views about the practice of science today in the context of his recently published autobiography, Dancing Naked in the Mind Field.

In April 1999, ISLAT sponsored the visit of Nobel Laureate James Watson, the co-discoverer of DNA, who received the Heald Award from IIT.  James Watson met with small groups of students and gave an inspirational and well-attended public lecture describing his scientific quest to unravel the mysteries of DNA.
