ILAO will be hiring 2 - 4 law students for summer 2005 to work up to 40 hours/per week, and, if interested, with the possibility of hours for fall 2005 and beyond.

Illinois Legal Aid Online, www.IllinoisLegalAidOnline.org, is a statewide collaboration of legal services providers, whose mission is to provide low-income individuals, and the attorneys who serve them, with greater access to legal information through the use of technology. ILAO’s three websites serve pro se litigants, legal aid attorneys and pro bono attorneys and are located at www.illinoislegalaid.org, www.illinoislegaladvocate.org and www.illinoisprobono.org, respectively.

The Student Associate(s) will assist in the development and maintenance of innovative web resources, including text information, forms and multimedia presentations. Specific activities include the following:

- Working with and supporting 32 expert attorneys selected from the Illinois legal aid community to develop and maintain legal training and practice support materials for the Illinois legal aid communities and for pro se litigants on all three websites;

- Researching, drafting and editing of web based legal education materials and legal forms with instructions for attorneys and the public;

- Developing web based document assembly modules;

- Preparing and assisting with content and presentations related to live video webcasts and archived video presentations; and

- Editing, organizing and publishing content submitted by attorney experts and editors throughout the State of Illinois for the three websites.

The position will require a commitment of up to 40 hours per week for the summer. For more information about the position, please contact Betsy Ehlen, Legal Content Coordinator, at 312.906.5318. To apply, submit your resume to Tony Ratliff at tratliff@kentlaw.edu.

Faculty Research Assistant

As an Access to Justice and Technology Student Associate you will have the opportunity to explore Access to Justice issues including the use of technology in legal services, alternative legal services delivery models, e-lawyering, and pro se litigant assistance.

Professor Ronald W. Staudt is looking for one to two law students to assist him in researching and preparing articles and other publications regarding Access to Justice. This is an exciting opportunity to explore the use of the Internet as a support mechanism for unrepresented pro-se litigants and in the practice of law. Research and evaluate E-Lawyering practices currently in use and examine the ethical issues facing those lawyers practicing law on the Internet!

Student Associates will also help to deliver the Access to Justice Author Project (A2J Author) to the legal aid community. A2J Author is a software product that will allow the legal aid community to easily create web-based guided interviews to help unsophisticated users of the court system to determine their eligibility and prepare court forms.

Applicants should excel in legal writing. Web page design and content editing experience with Dreamweaver MX or other tools is a plus, but is not required.

To discuss getting involved in this cutting-edge research project, please contact Professor Ronald Staudt via e-mail rstaudt@kentlaw.edu. To apply, submit your resume to Tony Ratliff at tratliff@kentlaw.edu.
