The 2003 online holiday shopping season has begun.
Internet retailers are projecting a 20 percent increase
in holiday sales over last year. What are your legal
rights as an online shopper? Experts are available
to discuss a wide range of e-commerce issues, including
online privacy, identity theft, e-signatures, and
which laws protect online consumers.
Tis the season for legal disputes about displays
of religious symbols in public places. Holiday
displays of menorahs, nativity scenes and other religious
symbols on government property have often been the
subject of lawsuits. Professor Sheldon
Nahmod, a constitutional scholar, can discuss
the controversies involving the separation of church
and state, and recent court cases.
The U.S. apartment rental climate is chilly.
Low interest rates are attracting more home buyers
as developers are building more residential rental
housing. Landlords in Chicago and elsewhere are trying
to entice renters with lower prices and perks. Stuart

Cleveland Cavalier's rookie LeBron James has a multi-year
contract worth nearly $100 million to wear and
endorse Nike's Air Zoom Generation sneakers. The shoe
is modeled after the controversial Hummer H-2 automobile
James' mother bought him for his birthday. The $110
Air Zoom Generation shoe will officially debut December
20 at the Cavaliers' game against the Chicago Bulls.
Nike is counting on the shoes to match or exceed the
sales of Michael Jordan's "Air Jordan" lines,
which are still among the top-selling sneakers. Stuart

The art of the deal. LeBron James is one of
75 basketball players who endorse Nike products. Adjunct
professor and sports attorney Eldon L. Ham

Michael Jackson may be charged with criminal wrongdoing
"in the first weeks of December" instead
of his scheduled January 9 court appearance according
to Santa Barbara officials. The pop singer was arrested
in California November 20 for allegedly committing
"lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14."
He was released on $3 million bail. Chicago-Kent professors
Douglas W.
Godfrey and Richard
S. Kling are available for interviews about
the case. Professor Godfrey is a former prosecutor
in the Kings County (New York) District Attorney's
office where he served in the sex crimes bureau. Professor
Kling is a criminal defense attorney and co-author
of Handling Child Witnesses.

Outsourcing as a Strategic Management Discipline.
Stuart Graduate School of Business and ROS Inc. of
Lisle, Ill., have joined to offer the first university-based
outsourcing program in the region. The program is
a sequence of four two-day courses that address key
elements of the outsourcing life cycle, from strategy
through implementation, contracting, monitoring and
metrics. The program, which will be held on IIT's
Downtown Campus, will begin December 11. Experts from
the Stuart School are available for interviews about
the program.
