After 14 years of denials, Pete Rose has admitted he bet on baseball. The former Cincinnati star and manager says in his forthcoming autobiography that he bet on games "four or five times a week." In 1989, baseball commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti banned Rose from baseball for life in accordance with league rules. One day before the ban, Rose signed a document that did not admit any guilt and included a provision that allowed him to apply for reinstatement after one year. Rose unsuccessfully applied in 1997 and in 2002 he met with current commissioner Bud Selig regarding reinstatement to the game. The commissioner has indicated that consideration of Rose's reinstatement is contingent upon a public admission of guilt. Sports law attorney and adjunct professor Eldon L. Ham is author of The 100 Greatest Sports Blunders of All Time. Professor Ham is available to discuss the Pete Rose controversy.

Martha Stewart, Courtney Love, Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson are scheduled to make court appearances this month. Stewart's trial for insider trading begins January 12. Jackson is to be arraigned on child molestation charges. Love faces felony drug possession charges and Peterson will go on trial for the murder of his wife and their unborn child. Experts are available to discuss the challenges of trying high-profile cases.

Why is health care so expensive? Professor Eliezer Geisler is director of the Center for the Management of Medical Technology at Stuart Graduate School of Business and a co-author of Technology, Health Care and Management in the Hospital of the Future. Professor Geisler is available to discuss the role medical technology plays in the cost of health care delivery.

Gold prices pushed above $430 an ounce for the first time since December 1988, fueled by the decline of the U.S. dollar. Professor Robert Laurent of Stuart Graduate School of Business served as a senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, where he participated in regular briefings and policy recommendations regarding monetary policy. Professor Laurent is available to talk about gold prices and the role of gold in monetary policy.

Super Bowl XXXVIII will be played in Houston on February 1. More money is wagered on the Super Bowl than on any other sporting event. Hundreds of Internet gambling sites offer bettors a chance to bet on everything from the coin toss to the final outcome of the game. Are these sites legal? Are there state or federal laws to protect online gamblers? Chicago-Kent Dean Harold J. Krent is available to discuss civil and criminal liability, privacy issues and jurisdictional issues related to online gambling.

Upturns in the market that occur at the start of the year are influenced by the "January Effect." As a result, stocks generally rebound from year-end selling to post some of their strongest gains. Professor Keith Black of IIT's Center for Law and Financial Markets is available for interviews about the January Effect.

Chicago-Kent's Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic is seeking taxpayers who have disputes with the IRS. Those who meet certain income criteria may qualify for free assistance with their tax disputes, including collection matters, audits, appeals and litigation before the Internal Revenue Service, United States Tax Court, and United States District Court. Students work under the supervision of Professor Jonathan Decatorsmith.
