This is Small Business Week in Illinois. Professor David Pistrui is the Coleman Foundation chair in entrepreneurship and industry professor of Business at the Stuart School of Business. Professor Pistrui can discuss the impact of small business development on the economy. His research focuses on the growth and societal impact of entrepreneurship and enterprise development. Prior to joining IIT, Professor Pistrui served as the founding managing director of the Enterprising Families Initiative at the Wharton School of Business. Chicago-Kent professor Jeff Thomas oversees students in the law school’s new small business program. Professor Thomas can discuss legal issues common to small businesses and the Small Business Law Workshop to be held this week. (See below.)

The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2006-07 term is coming to a close. Constitutional scholar and Distinguished Professor Sheldon H. Nahmod is available for interviews about the cases yet to be decided, the Roberts Court, highlights of the Supreme Court's 2006-07 session, and key issues the justices will consider during the new term.

Athletes behaving badly. The Chicago Bears have waived nose tackle Tank Johnson who is in trouble with the law--again. Last week, he was stopped by police in Arizona for speeding. Johnson was released from jail in May after serving two months for violating his probation after police raided his home and found a cache of unregistered weapons. Earlier this month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for eight regular season games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Johnson’s suspension could have been reduced to six games if he had stayed out of trouble. Sports attorney and adjunct professor Eldon L. Ham is available to discuss the NFL’s personal conduct policy and what recourse teams and the players’ union have with regard to disciplining players.
