Chicago-Kent salutes its national champions

A message from Dean Harold J. Krent

In 2008, Chicago-Kent advocacy teams accomplished what teams from no other school have ever done -- won the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year.

In late March, the Chicago-Kent team of Joshua Jones ’08 and Mark Griffin ’08 brought home the trophy for the National Trial Competition -- the second consecutive year in which a Chicago-Kent team has garnered the crown. Not only was Mr. Jones named the top advocate in the country, but he is the first student in history to be on teams winning back-to-back National Trial Competition titles.

Several weeks earlier, Chicago-Kent claimed the championship title at the National Moot Court Competition, won by the team of Joanna Brinkman ’09, Lalania Gilkey-Johnson ’08 and Rachel Moran ’08, with Ms. Moran being named the nation’s top oral advocate in that tournament.

Rounding out this spring’s national advocacy titles for Chicago-Kent: The team of Rachel Moran (as a trial advocate this time), Chanel Jefferson ’08, Matthew Casey ’09 and Brian Wojcicki ’09 won the National Ethics Trial Competition, and the team of Ted Koshiol ’09 and Jessica Tyrus ’09 won the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition.

The Chicago-Kent community is proud of the accomplishments of these extraordinary student advocates. Their success is attributable in no small part to the admirable dedication of their coaches, to alumni who generously volunteered their time, and to their fellow team members.
