HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt visits Chicago-Kent
Michael Leavitt, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services, visited Chicago-Kent on Wednesday, April 13, to
host a panel discussion on the future of Social Security. More
than 100 guests attended the hour-long event.
Joining Secretary Leavitt on the panel were Greg Blankenship,
executive director of the Illinois Policy Institute; John Goodman,
president of the National Center for Policy Analysis; and Michel
Korbey, senior advisor to the deputy commissioner of the Social
Security Administration.
Before the panel convened, Secretary Leavitt responded to questions
from students and faculty during an informal, 30-minute meeting
with the Chicago-Kent community. Among the reporters present was
a crew from NPR’s "All Things Considered," who interviewed Secretary
Leavitt and a number of Chicago-Kent students about their views
on Social Security proposals. NPR's story can be heard at http://www.npr.org/
