Today there is an international dimension to almost every area of law, from intellectual property and commercial transactions to human rights concerns, environmental matters, and criminal prosecutions. Chicago-Kent's world view enables students to learn to appreciate and adapt to major global influences.

Chicago-Kent has a long tradition in the global arena. In the Program in International and Comparative Law, J.D. students can learn how to conduct an international business transaction, develop skills to navigate among different legal regimes, and learn about international institutions, such as the International Court of Justice, the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization. Finally, the program offers opportunities to link course work to externships, foreign law study, and hands-on projects in nations across the globe.

Chicago-Kent's curriculum also supports advanced international legal studies leading to LL.M. degrees in international and comparative law and in international intellectual property law. The curriculum of the law school's LL.M. program in financial services law also reflects the growing internationalization of capital markets and financial services.

International legal studies at Chicago-Kent are underscored by the valuable resources of the Library of International Relations by numerous study abroad and exchange programs and by the efforts of the Global Law and Policy Initiative, which spearheads programs designed to promote a better understanding of the evolving global environment and to strengthen democratic institutions worldwide.
