WHY STUDY LAW IN CHICAGO?
Taking students where the law is going
Chicago is one of the world's great cities in which to study and practice
law. The law school's neighborhood, in downtown Chicago's West Loop,
is something of a legal and financial crossroads--and much more. The
city is home to hundreds of law-related organizations, from governmental
agencies to major law firms to advocacy organizations--dozens of them
within a few minutes' walk of Chicago-Kent. For Chicago-Kent students,
the city and its opportunities are part of the education.
Chicago-Kent's convenient downtown
location gives students extraordinary opportunities to observe
the legal system in action, participate in externships, take part
in special seminars, and network their ways through Chicago's legal
community.
Life outside law school
Chicago is a network of neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive
substance and style. Chicago-Kent's neighborhood is the West Loop,
which puts desirable housing, bookshops, coffee shops, ethnic restaurants,
delis, cafes, and public transportation at the doorstep. Nearby is
Chicago's famous Greektown neighborhood, home to dozens of Greek restaurants,
shops, and grocers. (More information about Chicago's many neighborhoods
is available online at www.chicago-neighborhoods.net.)
The West Loop is adjacent to the city's cultural and entertainment
hubs--with offerings ranging from the Art Institute of Chicago and
the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to legendary downtown blues and jazz
clubs to the vibrant theatre district. World-class attractions such
as the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium
are housed on Chicago's Museum Campus, fronting on Lake Michigan
just minutes away. (Check out the Law School Survival Guide's "Study
Break" section for more information...)
Living in Chicago
Chicago-Kent students live both near and far within the city of Chicago,
from the immediate environs of the West Loop to nearby Printer's Row
(once the heart of the city's publishing industry and now a model
of urban renewal), from Hyde Park on the city's south side to Wrigleyville
and Lincoln Park on the north. Many students commute from Chicago's
suburbs, taking advantage of convenient mass transit options or the
nearby major expressways. (Check out the Law School Survival Guide's
"Transportation"
section for more information...)
Chicago-Kent's Office of Admissions provides information to help
students conduct an apartment search, including a listing of residential
areas that are popular with students, student suggestions, a "roommate
wanted" list, and links to online apartment-finding resources.
