Problem for discussion 22 March 2006

Suppose you have been asked to design an Internet-based "community" that would link musicians and music consumers. The only essential requirements are (1) that musicians will be allowed to participate only if they agree to let other musician-participants use their music as the starting point for further creative effort and (2) that consumers must be able to share files freely with each other and with other musicians.

Be prepared to present and defend your design, drawing upon the assigned materials, especially including my article. You should be able to explain why musicians and consumers will have an incentive to participate, what kinds of disputes might arise and how your system will resolve them, and how the law will reinforce or undermine your design.
