From Professor Steve HeymanThe political and cultural debate over gun control
During the past month, the White House and the National Rifle Association have engaged in a war of words over who is responsible for gun violence in America.
Why is the debate over this issue so bitter? Is gun control an ordinary political issue, or does it reflect a deeper cultural conflict between different groups in American society? On March 31, three leading constitutional scholars, David Williams, Sanford Levinson and Glenn Harlan Reynolds will address these questions. This event, which is being sponsored by Chicago-Kent's new Institute for Law and the Humanities, will take place in the Courtroom on Friday, March 31, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. A reception will follow. Please join us for what should be a lively and illuminating discussion of an issue that has already begun to play a prominent role in this year's presidential election.
