From Professor Richard Wright

Screeing of "Frontline" video of actual jury deliberations

On Thursday March 29 at 2:30 p.m. in room C20 there will be a screening of the "Frontline" video, "Inside the Jury Room." The video runs for an hour or less. There will be a short discussion afterward. This video is a fascinating, unique look at the jury deliberations in an actual criminal prosecution that involved the issue of jury nullification. It dramatically illustrates the arguments between the majority and the dissent in the Dougherty case [from the Justice course] about whether the jury should be informed of its power/right to nullify the positive law. In my opinion, it is better than the movie, "Twelve Angry Men" (starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb). The video is being screened for Professor Wright's Justice class, but anyone is welcome to attend.
